7 Leaves Cafe — Restaurant in Downey

Extremely disappointed and left feeling both insulted and as if I’m a bad person for calling them out. Have been a customer of this location since it’s open many years back, recently received a lunar new year prize scratch prize ticket with my prize being “ free drink (1 free regular sized drink)” upon presenting my coupon to the employee they told me it was not a free drink (as the coupon stated) and was instead a “free upsize” from regular to large. I reacted confused and asked in a a confused but genuine way about how that worked as the coupon stated a “free regular drink”, the employee began some strange explanation about how the coupon was “paying for the large cup from the regular” but that the drink wasn’t free? That made no sense then and it still doesn’t now. I didn’t want to cause a scene so I accepted it, payed for both my “free drink” and other beverage and drove off. After leaving I checked the possible prizes for the lunar new year scratch prizes and there was indeed a “free upsize” AND “FREE DRINK” these are not the same thing and the employee gaslit me into believing they were and spoke to me with a terrible attitude. I then went back through the drive through and showed them that they were not the same thing, the lady at the window (blue hair septum ring) which had rudely helped me earlier asked me to wait a moment before coming back and giving me a receipt telling me “we removed the charge for your free drink, soo is there anything else?” Extremely rude and condescending without offering even the slightest apology regarding THEIR mistake, which to me seemed to stem from not wanting to honor the coupon and give me a free drink. Their drinks and boba are good. Bathroom and lobby is kept clean. Staff is nice although sometimes if no one is up front, you'll see a few of them in the back, one or two will glance at you without saying anything and pretend like they didn't see you until someone else comes out to greet you. Drinks are good but you can't adjust the sweetness, which leads me to wonder how fresh everything is, and why I'm still paying over $5 for a drink I can't even ask to adjust the sweetness of. Although a couple drinks I tried came with fresh fruit slice(s) like a lemon or orange. So if the drink is a bit too sweet for your taste, muddle the citrus with your straw and it helps cuts the sweetness a bit 😊.

If you're studying or working, they do have good WiFi and a few outlets. Plenty of seating for 20+/- pple and their tables are nice and spacious. Of the 3 times I've been there, it also seems generally pretty quiet during the day relatively compared to some other places.

Overall, I like this place. It's be nice if they had a reward program! (E.g. buy 10 drinks, get 1 free)

Oh they also sell macarons. They one time i wanted to buy some, they were out of about half the flavors leaving only 4 to pick from, but for me, that was perfect. They were not only the flavors I wanted to try, but I also have decision paralysis (not even sure if that's a real thing) and the limited options made it easier to make a decision. I got all 4 flavors that were available. I forgot to eat them that day and had left them out on the table, paper bag open. 7 Leaves is hands down my favorite spot for a refreshing drink, and I never leave disappointed.
