Handel's Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Downey

I finally tried Handel's when there was no line and it was good. They have a big selection of flavors and lots of different ice cream options i.e. shakes, malts, floats, sundaes, etc. I was happy to see that they had a 4 scoop sampler and opted for that. The chocolate was rich in flavor, butter pecan was nutty and tasted more natural versus store bought, the NY Cheesecake had lots of cheesecake chunks and the Graham Central Station also had plenty of graham crackers. You really have to like graham crackers for this one. It seems like they do not skimp on the ingredients. Their prices were very reasonable but one thing that fooled me was the size of the scoops. I ordered the Blue Monster for my niece and when they asked if I wanted 4 scoops, I thought it was ridiculous to get that much ice cream so I opted for 3. Turns out, the scoops are not the average ice cream scoop you might find at other ice cream parlors or the ones you have at home. I would say that it's about half that size. Misleading. We had asked for a banana flavored ice cream and the server recommended we get the "Monkey Business" ice cream. When I asked the server if they had peanuts available as a topping, she answered us by saying that they only had mixed nuts. Furthermore, we went on to ask what types of nuts the mixed nuts topping consisted of, she had no clue what specific types of nuts there were in the topping. Pursuing this further, when we had a taste of the "Monkey Business" ice cream, it did not taste like bananas at all. Also, it was overpowered by the flavors from the caramel, fudge, and browney. Additionally, we had also ordered the Black Cherry ice cream and though it did taste like cherry, it was a noticeably synthetic and fake flavor and it was excessively sweet. The staff don’t acknowledge your presence when you are in line. They kind of chit chat and then circle to you. I was standing at the window for a while. They weren’t serving ice creams or anything . This is the first place that doesn’t offer samples as well. I don’t like to commit things that are new to me. But I get excited to try it incase I like it or don’t like it.

I am also disappointed with in the responses of handles here with other customers as I manage a customer service team in sales . I don’t know if I have a history of one star reviews but I did have a bad experience and I wish the staff were more customer service focus. I hope who ever response to this has the staff accountable . Usually you always go with customer is always right but it seems handles is always right in this scenario.
