This place isn't cheap, I'm not even sure I'd classify it as a good value but that doesn't mean the quality isn't there, the service isn't excellent and the atmosphere isn't enjoyable.
Atmosphere: I've been here 3 times and one of those times was a busy weekend, I definitely prefer it during a less busy time as it can get very loud. It has a very modern feel with some upscale vibes. It's apparently been around since the 90s but it doesn't feel like it.
Service: My experience with the staff has been very pleasant, and they are usually very attentive. The one exception being that busy weekend and it's very likely the staff that night were a little overwhelmed that said they were still polite and quick to correct any issues. For example one order came slightly incorrect and they forgot about one of my drinks, nothing that was a major deal or not easily corrected and gain this was on a very busy night.
Food: We've done the hibachi once, it was good and definitely a fun experience. That said I personally prefer the standard dining and their sushi. Now they added some seasonal options here like ramen and some noodles. I love ramen, I don't love theirs. It's acceptable but if you love ramen like I do, just go to a dedicated ramen shop or noodle house. The sushi is the star of the show here for me. Their sea bass sushi, so good! The fatty tuna they had on special was top notch, and I had just had a tuna lovers sushi tasting a few months ago in AC and this was a similar quality, I just wish they had more variety because I trust them to deliver quality. Overall they offer a good quality of seafood in a place no where near the ocean and that alone makes it a bit of a gem. The last special I had from them were the oysters and again, great! Have I had better oysters? Sure but not at a place in the middle of PA.
So to sum this up, this is a great spot to visit when you want a slightly elevated night out or to celebrate something special like a promotion or graduation and for that purpose I'd recommend it. Now I've only been able to drink here once due to me typically driving so I can't give them rave reviews for their drinks but overall I did enjoy...
Read moreI love this place. It this offers a unique and entertaining dining adventure that is perfect for both small gatherings and larger groups. From the moment I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by a warm and friendly staff who provided top-notch customer service throughout the evening. The ambiance was inviting, with tasteful decor and a lively atmosphere. The hibachi tables were impeccably clean, and the skilled chefs showcased their culinary expertise right in front of our eyes.
The menu at OOKA is diverse and offers a wide range of options to satisfy any palate. I decided to try the teppanyaki-style hibachi, and it was nothing short of amazing. The chef skillfully prepared the ingredients, flawlessly executing each knife flip and spatula twirl. The sizzling sounds and tantalizing aromas added to the overall dining experience.
The quality of the food was outstanding. The ingredients were fresh, and the flavors were well-balanced. The steak was perfectly cooked to my liking, tender and juicy, while the seafood was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The accompanying vegetables were crisp and vibrant, and the fried rice was a delicious complement to the main course.
Apart from the fantastic food, the entertainment factor was a highlight of the evening. The chefs engaged the entire table with their impressive cooking skills, creating an interactive and fun atmosphere. They performed a few entertaining tricks, such as tossing shrimp into their hats or creating a fiery volcano on the grill. It added a touch of excitement and made the dining experience memorable.
The service at OOKA was exemplary. The waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable, and ensured that our glasses were never empty. Our server was happy to answer questions about the menu and even provided recommendations based on our preferences. The staff worked seamlessly as a team to create a seamless dining experience for...
Read moreWhile it can be tough to get in sometimes (especially weekends) it's worth the effort and the wait. The hibachi is good, but the sushi and sashimi is excellent. The presentation is some of the most beautiful I've ever seen, usually photo-worthy. While presentation doesn't necessarily mean the taste is there, it shows me an additional level of care for the craft and the meal preparation.
As for the taste, Ooka has the best salmon I've ever had. It's got the texture of butter and a mild salmon flavor, which can be too strong for some people. The tuna, mackerel, yellowtail, and all the rest are also fantastic. I've never gotten a piece of fish that smelled or tasted 'fishy'. The cuts are perfectly bite sized for me, my girlfriend, and her kid.
We often get the sushi and sashimi for three. It comes with white miso soup and a the usual salad with ginger dressing. The fish is a wide selection of what Ooka offers. There are a couple of rolls, some cooked fish, and plenty of sushi and sashimi. My girlfriend doesn't like eel, but she loves the eel at Ooka. The kid and I argue over the octopus when they have it. For desert we get an order of tamagoyaki (egg sushi). It's slightly sweet, the egg is cool, the rice is warm. It's perfect to finish this kind of meal.
We've never had a bad meal or sub-par service. Our servers have always been polite and helpful. We've had service that was a bit slow, and the server frazzled, but that's only been when the place is completely jammed (the bar included) and the wait line is out the door (not the servers fault at all). Let's face it - good food can only be made so fast, and table turns are at the mercy of the people occupying them.
I highly recommend Ooka in Doylestown. Make a reservation to make your life...
