First time dining at Cherie’s - family run restaurant. Greeted by son at the counter and mom from the kitchen; both very warm gracious people. I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo. They were out and suggested the seafood gumbo. My friend ordered the fried chicken with sides of greens & sweet potatoes. Both came with sweet corn bread . EVERYTHING (and I mean EVERYTHING) was sooo good. We didn’t order ‘drinks’, just water. I would say other than the gumbo, everything is made when ordered so it may be 10-15 min before your food is brought to you. But it’s so worth the wait. Very clean and nice looking establishment.
There is room for improvement/enhancements: 1) they need a dedicated server. The son takes orders AND delivers the food so it ends up being one customer at a time. 2) there should be some obvious signage to let you know where to go for napkins or to get water refills. You receive pre-packaged cutlery with your meal that has a very thin napkin included - not ideal when eating gumbo. It wasn’t until we were leaving that I noticed the napkin dispenser on a counter located in the front corner. 3) No one comes to check-in to ask how was your meal. I’m going to gather that’s because there are too few employees to allow that.
None of that really takes away how great an eating experience you will have at Cherie’s. I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. And I’m coming back to try that fried chicken and who knows how many sides. All I know is I can’t wait for the experience. I’m mad that I didn’t know how good it was before I went for lunch as I would’ve ordered a to go plate for dinner at the same time I ordered my sit-down meal. I didn’t have time to wait for the order, but I repeat, I will be back and I’m ordering a whole lot of cornbread too...
Read moreMy daughter and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Cherie's Southern Kitchen, and the experience left me with a Heartwarming Appreciation for Soulful Cuisine.
From the moment we stepped in, the inviting atmosphere and friendly staff set the tone for a delightful evening. The menu boasted a rich variety of soul food classics, each dish promising a taste of tradition. We started with their Fried Chicken Plate, Mac & Cheese, Cornbread and Collard Greens with Smoked Turkey, and the flavors immediately transported me to a place of culinary nostalgia.
The main courses were nothing short of exceptional. The Smothered Oxtail over Rice and Candied Yams were expertly prepared, capturing the essence of soul food with every bite. The attention to detail and the perfect balance of spices showcased the chef's dedication to authenticity.
What truly stood out was the genuine warmth of the service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was not just a meal but a celebration of soulful indulgence. The portions were generous, making it a true feast for the senses.
To top it off, the dessert selection was the perfect finale to an already stellar meal. Naomi's 7-Up Pound Cake and Nana's Banana Pudding is the perfect sweet note to end the evening.
In conclusion, Cherie's Southern Kitchen has truly mastered the art of delivering not just a meal but a soulful experience. Whether you're a seasoned soul food enthusiast or a newcomer to this culinary delight, this restaurant is a MUST-VISIT in the Tri-Valley. I left with a satisfied palate and a heart full of appreciation for the soulful journey this dining experience provided. Will Definitely be coming back for...
Read moreGlad to have a soul food restaurant in this area. The service and atmosphere was nice, but the food was lack luster. My husband and I went yesterday (Saturday) around 4:30. They were already out of oxtails. We both had the catfish dinner with a side of (2) wings, mac and cheese, cabbage w/pork and candied yams. The catfish was fresh, well seasonsed and delicious. Some type of dipping sauce, like a homemade tartar sauce would have been nice. And my husband said the candied yams were hot and tasty. However, everything else was basic and needed help. The cabbage had no flavor at all. It tasted like it was steamed or boiled with a dash of salt. No sauteed onions, garlic or pork flavor at all. The mac and cheese was lukewarm, clumpy and oily. The wings were actually wingettes. They were hot, but a littly salty because they tasted like they had been fried in old oil. And the small piece of cornbread was cold, with no butter served on the side. I also feel being served with plastic cups and utensils when dining in is tacky. Overall the food just needs some tweaking and quality control. I hope the owners read this review and take my constructive feedback as an opportunity to improve. I really want this place to be...
