Adobos Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Dubuque

This little mexican restaurant is great! Really doesn't get as much attention as it should, especially considering how close it is to the Roshek Building/IBM.

To start, they make fantastic salsas - in addition to the classic red that comes with the chips they serve, they also offer a variety of others like Green Tomatillo and Chipotle. I'm also a fan of their Mole sauce that comes on some of their food.

For lunch fare, one of my favorite things are their burritos - They have a few different kinds and they're all good sized and come standard with tasty queso sauce on top.

They also offer a pretty cheap lunch special every day with a nice punch card that gets you one free with every 4 you buy. Usually standard stuff like burritos/quesadillas in a daily rotation, served with rice+beans. Smaller than ordering off the normal menu, but definitely enough for lunch especially with the basket of chips+salsa.

Something that I just tried today are their "Ranchero" tacos. These are a-la-cart off the little free-standing menu on every table, and come in a variety of types (Try the Chorizo!). They're a little different than standard American tacos and consist only of meat, grilled onion, cilantro, and a wedge of lime for squeezing, all on a corn tortilla. Don't worry; you won't miss all the heavy cheese/beans that you find on normal tacos. They're also only $1.75: Order 3 or 4 of these and it's a meal. Make sure to try some of their salsa varieties with them - their green tomatillo is great on these tacos.

Just had a friend bring me food, as I was on video chat placing the order with him. I told him to tell them what I wanted and they completely rushed him through and I REMINDED them to do 2 CARNITAS ONE CHICKEN and they did THE OPPOSITE and as they were REMINDED to FIX IT they said NO CHANGE NO TIME. I pay for their service they need to fix what I repeated over and over HOW I SAID IT THE FIRST TIME AND NOT skip all the toppings. My tacos are usually overFLOWN with toppings and these are so skimpy because they wouldn’t let me or my friend tell them everything I wanted. If they’re in a rush that is not my problem they need to take care of their customers correctly UNDER EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE. The type of hidden gem build your own Mexican that legends speak of, and could make Chipotle weep. Very fair prices. Chill vibe. Outstanding burrito, though I've had better carrying vessels, which tend to be inbued with more flavor. Great value for how much I stuffed that boy! Chips were homemade and delicious. My biggest complaint is that I didn't get very many on the side, but it may have been based on how I ordered it. Guacamole and queso were both solidly above average. But that mild salsa was an absolute game changer, easily top 2 I've ever had all time. Rice, beans, veggies, all were above average. And as a cohesive meal, everything comes together extremely well.
