We had the pleasure of being waited on my Dottie's granddaughter, 3rd generation, 'Jennie'. The food was genuinely something 'grandma' would serve, it tasted like we were home again. We stopped in as we were passing thru Dubuque on a Sunday morning. Just a few patrons , sprinkled in the homey seating area, lace curtains on all the windows, radiators along the walls , a coat rack just inside the door was a nice touch and the nostalgic sound of the 'front' door was an unmistakable welcoming sound. Our food was served quickly and with a genuine smile and a 'welcoming' feel.
It was very reasonably priced and as each seat slowly filled with Sunday morning guests we took in the small town feel as everyone greeted each other by name ,as if they were all friends and family that grew up together.
We finished up, put on our jackets and I had the overwhelming urge to say " tell your mom and them I said Hi " š
If we're ever thru Dubuque again, we'll stop...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stopped at Dottieās on a Sunday morning for breakfast. The restaurant has a cute, old time decor with booths, tables and stools at a counter. You can go in and sit anywhere you want.
Dottieās service is great. We never saw the bottom of our coffee cups. Our water was always full. The whole restaurant is clean and feels like a home town cafe.
We had an omelet and a deluxe breakfast. The omelet was fluffy and covered half of the plate. The hash browns are crispy on the outside, just like you would want it. The deluxe comes with choices of sausage, link or patty or bacon. You get pancakes, eggs and toast, wheat or white.
The cost is exactly right. Two breakfasts with coffee came to right at $20. Affordable, clean, friendly quick service ā Dottieās canāt be beat. Plus easy to park right next to...

We sat for several minutes with no one saying anything to us until finally an employee decides to shout across the busy restaurant that we couldn't have our water bottles in there. I explained they were just water bottles and she told us we couldn't have them, it was the law. How embarrassing to have someone call us out loudly from across the room, she could have approached us and quietly told us. We've brought in our water bottles to every place we've eaten at while we've been in Iowa and never been informed of any such law. Needless to say, we...
