Tiny ice cream portions and they don't put a lot of candy mix-ins inside them even if you order triple the regular amount. The ice cream (custard) is otherwise good quality. The burgers are well enough, think roughly half a step below Culver's or Five Guys. In fact, the whole place seems to be trying to rip off Five Guys, color scheme and all, and just adding some 50's character and expanded emphasis on ice cream. The inside of the joint has an eye sore color scheme with all manner of bizarre self-glorifying wall hangings I cannot tell are a joke or serious. Regardless, they're pretty lame and just weird. The chain appears to be trying so hard to be a thing it feels embarrassing. It's fine enough but is nothing new. I appreciate their attempt at some fun ketchup alternative sauces but they're just okay. On the other hand, the burgers are decent and the ice cream is good. I'm just of the philosophy that if you want so bad to be a thing, start with quality and novelty. Offer us something we're missing or do the familiar much better. Don't be cheap with your portion sizes and don't leave just a few trace chunks of butterfinger in your ice cream with 99% of it being plain old vanilla ice cream. I shouldn't have to order quadruple fillings to approach what Betty Jane ice cream will give me standard. Offer more types burgers and make them interesting for goodness' sake. It's 2018, not 1958. Evolve. Lastly, respect my eyes as well as my palate and ditch the red and white cheap barber shop feel and especially the self-glorifying wall...
Read moreAlways, always excellent food, service and cleanliness. We live 30 minutes away, in Wisconsin, and make the trip there once a month. We've literally never had a bad meal there. The frozen custard treats R definitely worth going off of your diet for. The onion rings...they will bring U 2 your knees every time. And, 2 B perfectly honest with U, I must literally B the only person in the world that is NOT a French fry fan. NEVER have been. Even as a kid. But there's 2 places that I ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THEIR FRIES... Freddy's and Culvers. ABSOLUTELY the ONLY 2 places I ever order fries at. I've more than once also purchased their Freddy's Seasoning Salt and their Freddy's Sauce. Both R phenomenal. *Update: we ate there back in September. We had 3 meals and then 3 concretes 2 go. Had MULTIPLE problems with said order. EACH ONE of us had at least one problem. I sent in a Tattle survey that they sent me and asked me 2 fill out. I also sent pictures. Which I did and sent it on its way. I got a response in a fairly decent time frame. They thanked me 4 my response and told me I'd B getting a $$ reward in an email sent 2 me 2 yse on our next visit. I'd get it within a week or so. I just needed 2 send them my name and email. Which i did. NEVER RECEIVED IT. I send inquiries as 2 why I haven't received what they promised me. I sent 2-3 inquires. Never got my $$ reward NOR did they bother 2 answer any of my inquiries. Too bad as Christmas is coming up and I was gonna get at least 5 $50 gift cards 4 gifts. Probably...
Read moreI just want to share a story with you about something that happened at Freddie’s in Dubuque Iowa and a wonderful employee named Alyssa.
My father in laws funeral was yesterday. We invited my mother in law to dinner last night after a long and stressful day. She said she wanted to be alone and would just pick something up for herself through a drive through.
She went to Freddie’s.
She placed her order at the drive up and pulled forward. When she reached into her purse for her wallet she could not find it. She realized she had left it on her kitchen table. There were cars in front of her and behind her so she could not leave the line. When she pulled up at the window she explained to the girl at the drive up window that she did not have her wallet and apologized, but would not be able to buy the food she ordered. She said she would go home, get her wallet, and come back, but the girl said not to worry about it and gave her the food anyway. My mother in law watched her pull money out of her own pocket and pay for the food. My mother in law asked for her name and when she would be working next so she can repay her, which she will do tomorrow when Alyssa works again.
What an extraordinary thing for a young person to do.
I called the store manager today to share this story and express my gratitude, but I also wanted to post this story so that others can know how kindness can change one of the worst days in a persons life to one that also had a bright...
