The food was delicious! Service was quick but left something to be desired. Definitely got the feeling we were interrupting the guy working the window by ordering food, but that's unfortunately a common attitude for the food scene in the Outer Banks. When we pulled up and saw nobody lined up for the place we got worried, being horrible restaurants in this area seemed to get packed on a nightly basis. I mean, if those places are that bad, how could a place with no line of customers be good? Maybe it was because we had so many terrible experiences trying to dine in the area, so going in our expectations were basically that were praying to God we didn't choose another failure of a place. Luckily, things worked out! The fried chicken was crispy, well seasoned, and perfectly cooked! The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. The slaw was good, but nothing special. The 5 star review is completely based on the area, as anywhere else I'd give them 4 stars, but this place is a standout compared to the other restaurants (dine-in or take-out) in the area. Don't settle on cold, poorly prepared, contaminated, overpriced, and barely edible food that you can get anywhere down here. Go here and get delicious food that's well...
Read moreToday I made the trek to visit the modest window that holds a special place in my heart that is cookshak. This drive is a small price to pay for the chicken I crave all year. For the past half decade our family had made a tradition of buying an obtuse named hot sauce and sprinting to get some cookshak. Today I told the gentleman working the window with the wicked kraken tattoo of our tradition and he asked me to leave a review and boy did he ask the right person. It turns out that it’s his grandfathers recipe and man is it special. I recommend you go from 12-3pm, order and grab a beer from growlers to go and your fried gold will be ready before you are. The tenders are massive and very quality with a pure breading that’s always crispy ( unless you drive somewhere and let them sit in the box). The fries are insane as well, but I honestly haven’t had a bad meal from here. I sit here writing this on the beach with a full heart and even fuller stomach. From the bottom of my heart, this chicken is ethereal. I hope you find the same joy my family does. Some of these other reviews are under my skin, it’s a window, with little seating. Grab the food and eat it on the beach. You’re on...
Read moreWe were looking for a carnivore diet friendly spot for lunch within walking distance of the shops. The menu is concise so if you are looking for pages of options move along. There is chicken and sides for chicken. Both of which were well received. Across the group we had the whole bird for the carnivores, a 3 piece meal, and a sandwich all of which came out crispy and hot. The cardboard containers are for sure helping with soggy food. The fries were nicely crisp and overall a good experience. The only thing I wish was they would do tokens or something to be able to get drinks from the pizza place next door seeing as they are the same company (based on the receipt) So we did pop next door to order some drinks and enjoyed lunch on the shaded picnic tables. Our wait wasn't bad given the dude said it would be 15-20 minutes. Basically in the time it took to get into the pizza place and get the drinks we came out to it being...
