Duluth Gains Altitude! Curiousity is a wonderful thing. Consider two sisters visiting Duluth who love Vikre, but posed a question: "Are there any other fabulous cocktail bars in Zenith City of the Unsalted Seas?" The answer is yes, delighfully so. Three months ago, Altitude Cocktails opened in the Lincoln Park Craft District, and it is a beautiful addition to this part of the city. Beautiful as in eye candy, first off. It's a lovely space, with the bar itself front and center, pretty bottles all in a row. Then there's the menu. If you've had the good fortune to visit cocktail bars of renown such as Lyaness in London, then you know what I'm getting at: This is a menu worth reading because it's so much more than a list of ingredients for each cocktail; it's a reader's dream. And there's Hunter, the bartender, and "bartender" is, I realize, a word that does not capture what he does. We need a new word for people who do what he does. Hunter was attentive and informative, which helped sister choose her drink from the many on the menu that were calling her name. He shook up two delicious Death By Gins for us; they were perfect, topped with a touch of bee pollen. We talked, we laughed, we learned. Would that we could return daily to this gem of a place, to drink our way through the menu, with Hunter...
Read moreThe drinks were well-made and the staff was friendly, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by a large number of fruit flies inside the bar, which made it hard to enjoy the atmosphere. We moved to the patio to avoid the insects, but it lacked shade and had a view of the dumpsters, which was disappointing. For the price point, I was hoping for a more comfortable and polished setting. With more intentional pest control and improvements to the patio, this place could...
Read moreI enjoyed my drink and the man making the drinks was fun to watch and kind to talk with. Would recommend if you're in the area. The space is small so it can fill up fast. Drinks can take a little bit of time to receive but that's to be expected when they take time to make (this isn't your standard simple liquor+mixer place). In the meantime, enjoy the show of watching him make drinks! They also have a great selection of fun non-alcoholic...
