I wanted to try someplace new for my birthday dinner last night and decided on going to Clyde Iron. The reviews I read were all positive, so I figured it would be great to go there.
We were a party of 5. 4 of us had never been there before and were excited to be there. We got seated, ordered our drinks, and then our food all by 6:15. By 7:30 our food still had not arrived. Mind you, people who got seated AFTER us, were receiving their food. We were not the largest parties that were there. There were at least 2 other parties of 10 and more. The restaurant was not busy. Had enough servers to go around. Our waitress did check in with us to refill our drinks but never mentioned that our food was taking longer than expected. I went to the bar and asked for the manager, who happened to be standing next to the bartender. I told him that we have been waiting at least 45 mins for our food. Manager asks me "what would you like me to do?" Like really?! I told him to fix it.
Our food finally arrived about 10 mins later. The food runner apologized and said that the tickets got mixed up in the kitchen. I believed him until I took a bite of my burger, it was ice cold! My fries were hot. My friend's sandwich, Monte Crisco, was so hard from being over cooked that she couldn't eat it. They also removed the ham from it after telling her that they couldn't do that since it was pre made and frozen. My niece's friend that joined us, her burger was ok, she said. My boyfriend had the only hot meal.
The drinks we ordered were ok. My niece's pink lemonade was more sugar, flavored with a splash of lemonade. The Blue Moon on tap was served without oranges, had to ask for them. My jack and coke was fantastic.
The waitress came up to us to apologize again for the food. She said that they can do one of two things: They can comp all of our food or they can remake all of our food to go and we can pay for half. I told them that I am not paying for our food but we will pay for our drinks since there was no issue with that.
I will never go there again to eat. My friend and her daughter and daughter's friend will never go there again. My boyfriend will not go there again. If I could give half a star I would. Never, ever, again will I go there...
Read moreHands down the best dinner I've had in Duluth! Generally my favorite place to eat is Texas Roadhouse; however, I'm always on the lookout for a restaurant that offers the same quality food, service, and pricing with something other than steak and Clyde Iron Works hit all the nails like a checklist. Note that almost everything is grilled in large wood fired ovens creating an amazing smokey flavor.
We began with two appetizers, mozzarella bruschetta and wood fired wings. The wings come in 3 flavors and were grilled to perfection with flavorful skins they showed nice charring in minimal spots. I loved spicy foods and had ours topped with an equally flavorful buffalo sauce that only showed its nicely hot bite after the fact. The mozzarella bruschetta was wonderfully done, but note that it's less mozzarella and more flavorful. The Sudden Death wood grilled steak burger I had to follow was absolutely the best burger I've had in Duluth. The spice was exactly what I'd been looking for while maintaining an excellent taste. The Clyde Reuben recipe sandwich was another complete homerun take on a classic.
Although appearing a bit short staffed, service was extremely fast, friendly, and efficient. We were checked on multiple times, refills made, and extra sauce brought out. Coming in last, but definitely not least, the moderately priced bill that'll keep me coming back again and again. Both entrees we picked were among their highest priced and I could've easily eaten one meal with one beer for around $20. A great meal with an appetizer around $30. For two people, two appetizers, and beer, I easily expected the bill to be a lot higher than it was, but again, Clyde Iron Works amazed me in every way!
Conveniently located right near 35W, Clyde has plentiful parking and also offers special events both inhouse and through the adjoining event center. If you're on you're way through I'd definitely recommend a stop at this...
Read moreThis review is very difficult for me to write. I’m huge on costumer service, especially when it comes to wedding days and large amounts of money being spent. I was really excited to get married at Clyde. I loved how spacious it is, the industrial vibes, and how many things are included! However, soon after we began working with Clyde’s event coordinator the excitement started to disappear. Toni lacked costumer service skills, and engagement. Almost every ounce of contact and questions had to be initiated by us. She comes off very cold. Throughout the rehearsal dinner planning she continually referred to it as the “grooms dinner,” knowing it was a two bride wedding. We even sent an email asking her to be respectful of the language she uses and refer to it as a rehearsal dinner, she did not acknowledge it nor did she change her language. She continued to call it a grooms dinner until day of. The rehearsal dinner started off rocky, no staff was around to direct or greet us. The dessert came out 50 minutes after it’s scheduled time. For our wedding we had also asked for specialty pride champagne bottles to be ordered and placed on each table. We sent a picture of what it looked like to her. She stated she was able to order this for us. When we arrived at the wedding there were pride bottles we requested on some tables, but the other tables had the transgender colored champagne bottles. (Now this is not a big deal to us because obviously we come from the same community). My issue with it is that if she could not get enough rainbow ones she should have informed us, and asked if we be okay supplementing with the blue, white, and pink bottles. Overall, to us if came off as a lack of education to the LGBTQ community. Clyde looked beautiful and the food was great day of wedding. However, our overall experience was tainted by the lack of customer service which warrants the...
