I have been to this place many times over the years and have enjoyed seeing it transform over the decades into what I think can be safely called a pillar of the Duluth restaurant community. I don't go there as often anymore because I am usually on a tight budget, but, as in the photo I have linked to here, they honestly do an enormous amount for the local economy and suppliers and are part of the rennaissance in Lincoln Park neighborhood. Today I got the pot roast as it is a Sunday and my wife got the huevos rancheros. I forgot to snap a picture before I had my first bites. They were both good. I enjoyed the bread with my roast. It arrived *without* veggies besides the potatoes but they did bring me some a few minutes later. I took before and after photos. I was thinking they would be pot roast cooked veggies but these appear to have come from a skillet. That was disappointing but it was still good. Also the portions seem to have gotten a little smaller but I am basically ok with that. People are more conscious of portion-size and reducing their carbon footprint and this was a reminder of that. I would have preferred a slightly larger portion but, like I said, I can live with what I got. The service was as attentive or more so as ever, and i am going way back to the Highway Host truck stop days with my review here so that is high praise. My coffee and water glass never got less than half full. Also, I arrived with so e irritability that was nobody's fault but my own. When we were seated it was almost a full place and our table was wobbly. I thought about sticking a couple of match books under a leg but no place has match books anymore! Anyway, I didn't think it bore mentioning, but the astute server noting our party of five including two children picked up on it immediately and found a manager to fix it for us before pouring our water. (And they have very tall water glasses which I love.) This kind of service and the tastiness and complexities of the food are why people adore Duluth Grill. We will, of course, be back.

Honesty is key….. Duluth Grill, please take off the additional charges off the face of your menu. It’s honestly insulting. It makes me already think the cost of the meal before even getting excited about the meal. So as a consumer, and a multi business owner, I’m highly alert to these things as I’m sure everyone else is too. The OMC Smokehouse down the street does the same thing and for those reasons alone, I won’t be back. Also, including the lack of quality of all products served for our meals. If you’re going to charge those insane rates, the quality better be outstanding. It definitely fell short. ***Fried Chicken on a biscuit with country gravy It was overly deep fried and killed 3x over, I thought the gravy would save it but not when you only put one once of gravy on my plate. Come on man! You just shoved in my face that I’m paying 8% before I even picked an item, then this. Ouch The Chef picked up a little slack by serving a homemade biscuit but to no avail, no gravy. ***Breakfast Burrito It had fried chicken, eggs, hash, bacon and cheese. Very healthy portion and was satisfactory to the person eating it. It was also topped with country gravy. That’s what got them up to a 2 star. *** French Toast was just that but insanely expensive for something I could of made at home. My God Chef, put some effort here. Like put PB&J between them and fry again with crushed cereal on the outside. Some kind of imagination would be great. Make a s’mores one as that’s a staple there. Just some effort would be nice. ***Omelet I just can’t …… good job guy/girl in the back that rolled our egg into a roll…. For the ambiance and location, you’d think someone could find someone with creative spark in that kitchen. I know we’re in Northern MN but my God…. I would of posted the rest of our food but I’m tired of being negative but food is my obsession and I’m offended when establishments fall short when I know they have the potential to be better. This is my 5x here in 2 years and I’ll pass for awhile. The staff was very friendly and accommodating so their was that and good coffee. But I personally need more for that kind of money. Doesn’t match quality/expectations/food creativity.

The review from my first trip is in the paragraph below. I just went for my second visit and tried a different kind of burger, the PB Burger. I fought through to almost finish it because I didn't really like it. The flavor was just not anything that caught my attention. It has a lot of ingredients but I don't know that they really marry well. The Patty was not overcooked but it also wasn't very flavorful. I salted and peppered my hamburger three or four times just trying to get some sort of response. The Patty should be the star with the rest of the things accenting the foundation of the Patty. I think the issue was with the Patty overall. The kimchi was not super stout or anything like that. The egg was perfectly cooked. The cilantro didn't really add anything. The peanut butter was pretty good. I just think that it was too busy of a burger and probably something should be removed instead of added to make it better. I again ordered the Korean brussel sprouts and those things are amazing with squirts of lime juice. I never thought that I would ever say that brussel sprouts saved the meal but they definitely did. The second meal was more of a three-star and the first meal was more of a five star so I averaged to a four star. I would still return to their restaurant but maybe stick to something that is less exotic. Visiting Texan. Busy place but the food was very good. The chicken fried steak was a little chewy in places but it was nicely done otherwise. The gravy is legit. Tasted all that good fat in the sausage gravy. Well seasoned. Nice portion for a big guy. I had the Korean Brussel Sprouts. Don't forget to squirt the lime on them. I asked for more lime wedges.

I haven't been here in quite a while (I moved to NYC 10 years ago) but I LOVE the changes to the menu. Chilaquiles is one of my favorite brunch foods and when I saw it on the menu, I had to try it! I was NOT disappointed! I got it with barbacoa and over medium eggs. It was divine. The presentation was stunning, the pico was fresh, the tortilla strips were the perfect ratio of crispy to soggy (I also love that they use strips instead of chips as it's easier to eat), the eggs were cooked perfectly, the barbacoa was juicy and delicious and the lime creme and guacamole added a delightful touch of brightness to the dish. It is a bit spicy so if you don't like spicy, I would not necessarily recommend it (I love spicy) Dare I say, there may be too many tortilla strips... I felt bad leaving so many at the end but if that's the only negative thing I have to say, this dish is a WINNER which I highly recommend! High compliments to the chef and whoever spent countless hours, no doubt, developing the perfect symphony of spices in this dish. You can get a number of different proteins on it or just get it plain (the eggs come with it) but I would definitely recommend the barbacoa. If you're looking to get in quick, that will not happen. This place was hoppin' from the time we arrived to the time we left. There was a constant line of people in the doorway and near the front doors which does take away from the atmosphere when people are staring at you wondering when you're going to leave but it just means they are absolutely doing something so right that people want to eat here!

We were visiting from out of town and made a stop to Duluth Grill on Sunday the 25th. The waitlist online made the process very easy, but be warned, this place is BUSY. Which makes sense, because it ended up being without a doubt the best service and food i’ve had at a restaurant in AGES. They have fire pits outside to hang out at while you wait, which we all thought was a cool touch. Our server Selina was an absolute gem. She was helpful, kind, patient, and really just went above and beyond during our visit for brunch. I also have to say I am so pleased that the menu had a ton of options for tea-drinkers. I don’t drink coffee, and it seems that breakfast spots never have much to offer aside from regular green or black tea. I noticed how terrific their coffee menu was as well. Their food menu is fabulous - but it’s SO hard to choose! I was agonizing over what to get, and decided on the farmers feast with eggs, bacon, gouda bacon grits and a caramel roll. Others at the table got the Billy Bob Burrito and a Carnitas Skillet, along with avocado toast. Everyone agreed it was an incredible meal. Portions were also insane! Be prepared for leftovers, or a big nap afterwards. As we were wrapping up, someone mentioned it was my birthday, and Selina packaged up a piece of pie for me (which she positioned on some whip cream so it wouldn’t slide in the car on our 4-hour drive back home) which was really the cherry on top. Talk about incredible service, food, and atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back next time we’re in town!
