Our first restaurant choice was at full capacity…so I searched Korean places in the area since I was craving it, and stumbled upon Dan Moo Ji. This establishment is on the ground floor of a 2 story strip of other businesses.
Upon entering, you can order at the counter or sit down. The restaurant was pretty empty when we got there, so we were seated right away at a half table/half booth. There is a bright white aesthetic, with cute string lights cascading the kitchen behind the glass when you enter. Contrasted wood with white tables await at the dining area. More parties were sat throughout our dinner, so it filled up quickly and the to-go counter was busy the entire time.
For appetizers, we got the fish cake skewer with soup and corn cheese. The soup for the fish cake had a good depth of umami. It came in a measuring cup of sorts with a ladle, so you could scoop your own. Although we ordered only 2 servings, it was able to serve 3 people and fill up each of our bowls twice. The corn cheese came in a hot little skillet and was tasty. For the mains, We ordered the tuna kimchi kimbob, spicy tuna kimbob, and bulgogi kimbob. What made it really unique is the perilla leaf they put in it, aka sesame leaf. I’ve never had that in kimbob before and it definitely leveled up the flavor. We had to ask for a side of spicy mayo and soy sauce for dips - apparently the only 2 they had. Everything was super affordable, it was just under $30 to feed a party of 3. My only gripe is that our server didn’t really check up on us at all once we ordered. We flagged them down anytime we needed something. However, I will definitely come here again if I’m ever craving...
Read moreI was on a business trip to Duluth and I was driving around looking for a quick bite to eat. I was actually looking for a Ramen place but when I was driving by the shopping center in which this restaurant was located I saw all of the Korean businesses and pulled in immediately because I don’t come across many Korean food joints where I live and I knew there would be a great place in here to eat. I saw several Korean restaurants but the name Dan Moo Ji (my favorite place) stood out because if they had the confidence to name it my favorite place then it had to be good. My first impression upon entering was the smell was fantastic and the place was very clean. I wanted to try a variety of entrees. Based upon the recommendation of the man behind the counter I ordered the Cham Pong Udon, the Spicy Tuna Kimbop, and the Spicy Pork Cup Bob. The food was absolutely fantastic! The flavor profile and depth took me by surprise. This was really really good food. And the prices were extremely reasonable. (See receipt pic) The first 2 pictures were my from my lunch the day I left and the rest of the pictures are from dinner the night before. (Yes I ate there twice. They are that good.) if you are anywhere near Duluth or Norcross and you want a fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff, and the most delicious Korean food that I have ever had at least, then you need to stop in and try them. You WILL NOT be disappointed. if they ever opened one of these in my hometown (Greenville, SC) they would make a fortune as they would have absolutely no...
Read moreThe kimbap at this restaurant is exceptionally delicious for its price. The generous fillings in all their kimbap varieties make it a truly delightful experience – I almost want to try every single one! By now, I have tried 5 different kimbap at this restaurant. Because the kimbap was so satisfying, I also ordered the assorted fried food. To be honest, twi-kim ("튀김" "fried items" in Korean) was just average. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly outstanding either; simply a standard fried selection. Following that, I decided to try the tteokbokki. Kimbap,twi-kim, and tteokbokki are classic Korean foods that are loved by young people, sold at steet restaurants, so I wanted to sample all three. However, I was extremely disappointed with the container the tteokbokki was served in, rather than the dish itself. It came in a small aluminum pot, the kind known as 'yang-eun naembi' (양은냄비) in Korean. While these pots are sometimes well known in Korea, they are actually unsuitable for cooking or serving food because toxic aluminum can get into the food. This particular pot was quite small and, to make matters worse, the coating was completely worn off, therefore, toxic aluminum can easily get into the food. Knowing that the toxic aluminum was likely dissolving into the tteokbokki and its sauce, I simply couldn't bring myself to eat it. I tried a couple of bites, but the thought of ingesting aluminum made it difficult for me to properly assess the taste of...
