Pop Pot is one of the many hot pot restaurants which are becoming more and more popular especially on Pleasant Hill road as it's one of many similar in the area.
How well does it stand out? Well for starters, it's located in the Sweet Hut shopping center and it's also a few doors down from the other hot pot restaurants that that shares the shopping center as well. The exterior is nice and has modern look to it. The interior itself is nicely decorated with dark color tones and also several fisherman ropes hanging upon from the ceiling. Seating arrangements are spread and there is also a bar.
This isn't the traditional style hot pot where you put everything in yourself, the hot pot already has set items placed in it where they bring it to you. The menu here has many different hot pot dishes. There are tons of options for the broths, you have some from Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Japan, etc. Tons of variety for sure. Each hotpot is served in large metal pot they fed by a flame underneath that keeps the broth boiling hot. Each dish comes with an option of noodles or rice. There are also add-ons you can pay for like extra meat or shin ramen noodles instead for example. This is a nice touch as if you know how you like your hot pot you can make it the way you want. In terms of flavor, the broths I did try were rich and savory. By the way these hot pots are big and can definitely be shared with an extra person.
Overall, enjoyed my meal without too many hassles. Hot pot isn't really for everyone as it's takes patience to eat. Prices were not bad at all. Service was okay, wasn't expecting them to roll out the red carpet or anything. Up to you really if you want to try it out. I...
Read moreI may have totally overthought this - but I was so confused on how to eat hot pot! I ordered their miso-based seafood hot pot and was like "ohh - that's a raw egg . . . and that shrimp still has a head on it . . . and there are seashells in my soup . . . how do I eat this? Do I eat the whole thing?" So, brace yourself. If you haven't ventured very far with your culinary pallet this one may be a bit more on the advanced side. But let me preference this - the food is spectacular once you get the hang of how to eat it. It is perfect on a cold day and really gives you a great variety of different foods to try (like fish cake, fish, mussels, quail egg, different types of mushroom, etc.) The waitress was super nice and walked my husband and I through the process. Essentially, you can pick either rice or glass noodles to pair with your hot pot. There are appetizers that you can munch on while you wait for your hot pot to cook. If you have never eaten a whole shrimp or haven't been exposed to different varieties of seafood before - be open to learning and looking a little crazy as you figure out how to eat it. The hot pot is designed to be single-serving but the portions are big enough to where you can share them. My pot was $17 and my husband's was $15 - he ordered the mushroom miso based hot-pot...
Read moreThis place is my place when it comes to instant mini hotpot. Place is comfortable, not really packed. The waiters are friendly and taking their time. Waiting time is usually bearable. The menus are limited but you come here for hotpot, 16 options are already well enough to pick from. Their side dishes are great, my favorite is the popcorn chicken. Now comes to the pot. The pot is already cooked and ready for you to enjoy. It has everything in it and the ingredients are listed on the menus as well. The sauces are quite limited but the waiters bring the bottles to your table and ask for your choices. Should try the mild spicy level for a better taste. My favorite pot is the Japanese one. They also has the Satay Beef and Thai seafood are really worth trying. Price: 1.5$ - they're very acceptable! Enjoy your time here because it gonna be worth it. I'm quite happy to see their...
