Don't know why I keep doing it but something makes me try BBQ when I'm outside ofTexas. This spot was near where I was staying. Has a bar area which is separated from the regular dining area. There were 9 or 10 year old kids sitting at the bar which was annoying. I literally sit at the bar not to be near kids. Anyway, the BBQ was just edible. I had brisket, Mac and slaw. Brisket was mostly dry with little flavor. BBQ sauce helped it. Mac was barely edible. Just cheese and noodles. The slaw tasted like air. I had to pour half the BBQ sauce into the slaw to make it edible. Also had wings. They were ok but the flats were broken full wings which made them boney if that makes sense. Just decent wings overall. Bar does have a solid selection of beers. They were having some kind of trivia which seemed fun. Everybody else seemed to be enjoying the barely edible BBQ so what do I know. Texas BBQ has really spoiled me. If in the area, I'd go back for trivia and beers, not food.

To be fair, I'm not really a meat eater so I don't belong here, but I wanted to go so my husband could try it and I like to support local businesses. I got a salad with chicken salad on top and it was pretty terrible. There was some attempt at roasted veggies on the salad but they were gross and overall it was 90% lettuce. The chicken salad was not my thing either - I didn't like the texture or flavor. I also got the brussel sprouts and they were ok but I wouldn't get them again. They didn't cut the stems off which was annoying. Apparently the brisket and pulled pork were good. I would try one more time and just get sides, but it would be really great if they could pull together at least one good vegetation dish so we can eat there with our meat eater friends.

The restaurant seems to be a combination of bar food and BBQ. There’s two menus for each, and note that if you order from the BBQ menu, there’s an automatic 20% gratuity fee. I ordered a beef brisket platter. Overall it was amazing with good ratio of fat and lean meat. However, I would say the lean parts are a bit dry, but it still works out when eaten with the fattier part. The sides were also amazing, I got the crispy Brussel sprouts and cucumber salad, each that are such contrast of another, where one is fried good crispiness and the other is refreshing and grease-cutting. I was surprised to see burnt end on the menu, but unfortunately it is only available on Saturdays so I guess I’ll need to revisit on a Saturday.

Real bbq, maybe not the best, depending on your palate. You order at the counter, then depending on what you ordered you'll either get your tray right away, or they'll give you an order number sign and bring the food to your table in 15-20 min. The line goes from left to right, so go up the left wall to order (and grab bottled drinks, pudding, etc) -- nearly all the newbies, including myself, mistakenly went up the right-hand aisle instead. Note: The menu is a la carte except for the sandwiches. Would not recommend the ribs, a little tough. Do not drink the water--unfiltered city water or maybe the ice machine has not been cleaned. The sides seem expensive on paper, but that is because they are all about twice the size of a normal portion, so strategize to share with a friend, or plan to take half home. Potato wedges taste good, nothing special. Cowboy beans are exactly as advertised, Texas/Western style, not Southern. Chili is very good, full of meat. Banana pudding is very good, not too sweet-- pick it up at the drink case before you order. They offer Korean bbq sauce, but no sweet-style. The regular sauce is vinegar-based. Restroom was clean and politically correct, but lacked hot water. There are only two 1-seater restrooms, so there might be a wait... VERY loud in the dining room, because it is all hard surfaces, except for 4 thin mats; all metal ceilings and concrete floors. I understand they just opened a month ago, so that explains a few of the hiccups during the ordering and serving process (trouble ringing up orders and forgetting to bring meats with the sides, and some of the sauce vats were empty.) I do plan to return at some point after a couple months to try some of the other menu items, but will go when it's...

Absolutely fan-freaking-tastic. I don't give out five star reviews lightly. Heck, I don't write ANY reviews that often anymore. I am compelled to do so now because I really want to see Morty's succeed.

We had the Pitmaster's Platter for 4. It comes with beef brisket, pulled pork, turkey breast, mac and cheese, cowboy beans, slaw, and pickles. We substituted the slaw for potato wedges. Portions were generous. We had plenty leftover to bring home with us.

All the meats were super flavorful and moist, even the turkey breast, which can so often be dry and flavorless. The "pastrami rub" they use on their turkey fixes that. I loved everything. The mac and cheese and potato wedges were standard but good. The pickles were something special. I loved the pickled cucumbers as well as the pink-something-or-other that came alongside -- radish, perhaps? The cowboy beans were a solid hit with my husband and niece. I liked them, but they LOVED them.

The sauces were excellent as well. Nothing needed sauce, which is the true sign of great BBQ. But they were yummy, and a nice accompaniment. My favorites were the house sauce and the mustardy Carolina-style sauce.

Service was very attentive but not overbearing. Perfect, really. I'll be back. I'm already thinking about what I will...

Went on a slow Sunday afternoon for a casual business meeting. Even with a fairly empty bar area, the bartender ignored us for about 20 minutes while we were sitting at the bar, until we finally had to get her attention. We ordered a full pound of BBQ for 2 of us, and it came out cold, plain, and without ANY sauce even available. So, we had to ask for BBQ sauce, which took a minute and just made the food even colder by the time it arrived. Even then, she never asked us what type of sauce we wanted (maybe they only have 1???) and only brought us one small disposable ramekin for each of us. We were both bewildered. We had to ask for about 4 more small disposable containers of BBQ sauce to even finish the meal. The food probably could've been good if it had been hot and if we'd had any sauce readily available anywhere, but neither of those things happened. I've never been to a BBQ place without multiple types of sauce readily available, so it was extremely odd. Frustratingly, we had to flag down the bartender each time we wanted more drinks, too. I get that it's a fairly new place, but these were glaring issues which couldn't be overlooked. Ultimately, as much as I wanted to love this place, I just didn't even...
