Everyone in Durango seems to adore Cream Bean Berry and I get it. Their commitment to the environment is front and center, from their locally sourced organic ingredients to their mission to “strive for maximum environmental sustainability in every aspect of the business.” That’s not just a tagline, it shows in everything they do. And I absolutely respect and support that!

That said… I had the strawberry ice cream in a cup, and as much as I wanted to love it, I just didn’t. The biodegradable spoon they provided was a bit of a deal breaker for me. I know there are small metal spoons available (or you can BYO), but by the time I figured that out, the texture and flavor had already gone sideways. I’m all for saving the planet, and am grateful for businesses like this one who work hard to make it happen, but sadly I didn’t finish my scoop. It just didn’t taste like strawberry ice cream anymore once the spoon started doing its weird thing.

Clearly a well-loved local gem with a big heart and a mission I consistently support, but for me, this one was a miss. Maybe I will try again next visit and bring...

Let me start by saying that in my almost 40 years on the planet I've eaten my fair share of ice cream, this was hands down the best vanilla I've ever tasted. I had the balsamic strawberry, so did my youngest and we both loved it. Middle girl got mint chocolate chip, it tasted like fresh mint leaves, probably going to get that for myself next time. Oldest daughter had almond fidge ripple with sprinkles, it was surprisingly amazing. My wife got a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of vanilla, the chocolate was great, the vanilla was out of this world. I don't know how they made it taste so good but I wish more companies would make theirs taste like this.

We got in really fast, like walked in and right up to the counter with no line. It filled up behind us, line was out the door by the time we got out scoops. They turned the people out a lot faster that I thought they would. The employees were very friendly and helpful, my girls tried a few flavors and nobody seemed upset or rushed.

I'm definitely going back, with kids or without. 10\10 best ice cream I've had in a...

Here’s what my family has to say about Cream Bean Berry:

Josh, 40: Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot. Interesting flavors like strawberry balsamic make this place unique, and a pretty good selection of vegan/dairy free ice cream let’s everyone enjoy. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, and a place we can’t help but visit almost every day (sometimes twice per day) we’re in Durango. Really.

Emily, 10: Omg, I LOVE this ice cream, even if the weather is really hot or extremely cold, it’s sooo good. A thing I like is that you save 50 cents if you bring a spoon (plastic, paper or metal) Highly recommend! (Love all the options)

Stephie, 38: Once we have been twice in one day - and I’m not even a lil ashamed. Great people working there, great ice cream! Hot Tip: hot fudge! …and the homemade...

I was so excited to go here based off the reviews, but generally I was underwhelmed. I don't know if I just caught a bad day or what the issue was. I love made in house ice cream shops, so that was a plus. I got mint and coffee ice cream. You have to warn people if it is spearmint - seriously. I eat a ton of ice cream, and aside from me making spearmint ice cream at home once (after which I vowed never to do that again), I have never seen ice cream labeled as mint and received anything but peppermint. The coffee ice cream was bland - I couldn't taste coffee. Anyway, I really wanted to like coming here, and I hope that it was just a bad day. As an aside, I love the focus on compostable bowls/flatware, but it doesn't do much if you don't actually compost - get a compost please!

They have a pretty short, but unique list to choose from. With no sampling (which I don’t think anyone understands the reasoning behind anymore), it’s hard to choose. My husband and I shared the honey lavender and strawberry balsamic in the GF waffle cone, which was very good. I would choose the strawberry over the lavender, but again, no sampling… The portions are very generous, which is nice because it’s not cheap… add in tip, you’ve got a $30 ice cream trip for a family of 4. I got 3 single scoops to go and it was the tiniest bit of ice cream for $16, plus a tip, I would say that amount was not worth it. There were several people working and each of them was so friendly, definitely a small-town nice people vibe going on!!

This ice cream was in fact good. Definitely the best in town, also the only from what I saw. However, flavor selection was pretty minimal, there were a lot of vegan flavors which really aren't my jam. The main reason for the 3 stars was the price. Just about $18 for 2 people, nothing fancy, double scoop on a sugar cone. I just prefer the homemade feel to this overpriced "artisan" ice cream. If you are feeling a dessert I'd try out Crepes, etc.
