El Rancho Tavern — Restaurant in Durango

What a horrible experience today at this bar. We are down from Canada with friends who are from Durango. They sent us on our way to explore. We stopped in for a cold beer. The bartender wouldn’t make eye contact with us. We just waited patiently, watched him eat his food, chat to the lady at the bar. Finally my husband went up and ordered a couple of beers. He was asked to show ID, that’s fine, it’s funny when you’re in your 60’s, but no problem. Then he said the lady to, again no problem. He then said I need your passports……ummmm we don’t carry our passports we leave them safely at our summer home in Washington. He then refused us and told us nobody would serve us in this town. Very rude. Thankfully we found lots of pubs. Not one asked for ID. We were so excited to come here, and to have that as our first experience was a bit shocking. Good for beers and to “be seen” on weekends. First time on a week night was great - male bartender, personable, smiled, offered water, checked on us for a refill, etc. Friday night 3 bartenders don’t make eye contact, smile unless it’s someone they know, or communicate in any way until telling us we’re not in their “section.” Purple haired lady made a great drink while other female bartender made a terrible drink so no consistency with mixed drinks beyond 2 ingredients. Don’t know if they’re trying to be “locals first” since I am a local, or just plan bad service. 2nd female bartender said it was our fault we chose to sit where we sat, so at least now I know which of their bartenders to avoid sitting in her “section,” whatever that means since she ignored us the majority of the 2 hours we were there and we only...

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! My drink got spiked and they were no help. I am one of many girls this has happened too over the years and it seems like they simply don’t care. My boyfriend went in the next morning to talk to a manager and they wouldn’t tell him when they were in coming in and treated the situation like it was a daily occurrence that was out of their hands. I don’t usually leave reviews but the more I talk about my experience, the more girls have come forward saying the exact thing has happened to them at the ranch.
