Ska Brewing Co — Restaurant in Durango

I am a master brewer graduate from Siebel Institute and even studied brewing at Doemens academy in Munchen, Germany. I love beer!! I worked for ballast point brewery in San Diego before moving to the area to brew at Riff Raff in Pagosa Springs. When I first tried Ska it was all over! Best beer ever! Great food and a fun staff!! I’ve been coming to Ska for twelve years now! They always greet me friendly and love my black and white checkered “ska” dog. We’ve always loved it until meeting Maggie, the general manager, last visit. The “Dave” was delicious, though a little more spicy. I wondered if they may have changed the recipe,so since our waitress was new she sent over the manager. Maggie approached us and asked “What’s wrong NOW!” I replied nothing was wrong but I was curious if they changed the recipe. She retorted “none of the recipes have been changed in years, it’s the same as when you always get it! I was really taken back by her attitude with us so I asked… she told us all of her staff complains that we are difficult and constantly sending things back. I apologized and said I had no idea other than the occasional cold fries or asking for extra croutons, I thought we were fine!!! I guess I never noticed and thought I was appreciated. Being a two time cancer survivor and kidney/pancreas transplant recipient I definitely want my food cooked thorough and correctly but don’t feel like I can ask for that anymore. Looks like I’ll be going to the grocery store for my favorite Ska beers from now on…now that Maggie has made it clear I’m hated at my favorite brewery. I really loved this place and now I’m giving it 1 star. It sucks and I’m sorry to say that we waited for 1.5 hours to see our ticket lost in the queue. I calmly spoke to the manager (girl with black hair) pointing to my 3 kids waiting for food, she comped a portion of our bill and said she would bring us something for the kids. I agreed and said that it wasn’t about the money, it was about the kids needing dinner and it was almost 8pm at that point. Then. She avoided us after continuing to send food out and past us. After another 20 min, I was upset and asked her what happened and her response was that we could leave. So we did and as far as I know, we were given a partial refund, waited for 2 hours, and left with nothing but hungry children at 8pm at night. If we weren’t the absolute last table in the restaurant after beginning in the queue with every table full when we arrived, then it would have been more understandable for us to appear unreasonable, but this was not the case and we were treated with complete disrespect. I do understand there is upstairs and outside so seems there needs to be a bigger kitchen to accommodate the 60 tables at Ska. I am a Durango local and I would have loved to continue supporting...

Okay, so this is a fair and honest review. If you like good beer Ska Brewery has very good beers. If you like good service it might be the worse service I have probably ever had. We sat at the bar (while it was not very busy) and they might as well acted like we didn't even exist. Once they found out we were from a state that their beer is not sold in they wouldn't even serve us another beer flight. The bartenders got interested in talking to a local and although I had a flight card filled out for over 15 minutes they would not give us any service... The prices quoted for the beer flight and partial pour my wife got were incorrect and normally we buy 2 shirts and a glass from every brewery we go to, but this time we didn't. You think they would want business from customers but they missed out on more sales from us by not giving us good service. So at the end of the day would I be back to the actual Brewery: Never.
