Jersey accent not needed to order here.
Out of nowhere, Jersey Mike’s appeared in East Peoria. I only knew this because I got a flyer in the mail offering a free sandwich for the grand opening of Jersey Mike’s. Matt got the same flyer in the mail, so I asked him if he wanted to check the place out. He agreed and we found an afternoon we were both free to redeem our free sandwiches.
We got lucky as there wasn’t a long wait for us to order our food. The coupon we had was for a free sandwich but we also grabbed some chips and soda to round out the meal. From what I remember, ordering a sub here is like any other sub shop. You pick out what sandwich you want from the menu and then you can customize it to your liking. Matt and I placed our ordered, waited for our food and took a seat outside.
I grew up eating Subway in my late teens and early 20s so I am all too familiar with eating and ordering sub sandwiches. It wasn’t until I started to travel that I realized that sub sandwiches have more to them than the mass-produced stuff they have at Subway. I’ve tried Head West, Firehouse Subs, Snarfs, and a few others. Once I tried these places, I haven’t had Subway since. It’s just my personal opinion but I feel these smaller chains do it better. Does Jersey Mike’s do it better than Subway?
Yes. Yes it does and then some. Jersey Mike’s is easily in my Top 5 for places to get subs. Despite not remembering the specific sandwich I ordered, I do remember being amazed at the softness of the bread and the quality of everything smashed in that small crevice where the bread was split open. Each bite was full of flavor and everything tasted as if it were cooked fresh.
It was with luck that I got another flyer in the mail. It was an offer that any money donated to the local firefighters earned you a free sandwich. I took the offer down there, threw some money in their firefighter tip jar and quickly scooped up my free sandwich. I remember being amazed at how good it was and that my first trip wasn’t a fluke.
If you like subs, you owe it to yourself to try Jersey Mike’s (or one of the ones listed above). If you don’t have one near you, I would encourage you to see what smaller sub shops are in your area and to try them out. Sometimes its a nice surprise when you try the stuff that isn’t...
Read moreI have collected orders at this place of business many many times for customers on behalf of GrubHub. Never have I ever had an issue until Friday night Sept. 29th around 7ish. It was very busy, fine no worries I'm patient. One of the employee's ask me what was the customer's name I picking up for; I told him but he didn't see it...okay. I figure they're are still working on it. There's an older individual (man had issue with) on the cash register and the other young guy (the other had issue with); I noticed his energy from the time I walked in. I tell them again and again the customer's name and read her order again, for the 3rd time now. The younger one, says it right there behind the older guy. AGAIN, I tell him her name and read her order off to him, to the point of positioning my phone so he can see it. He tells me to confirm order. I said, well I just did...he's says no, close it out. I told him, I have been a GrubHub driver for 5.5 to 6 years now. He grips the bag and refuses to give it to me. I said, I know how to perform my job I don't need you to tell me, thank you. By this time, he and the young guy begin to get loud with me; I step back because I'm shocked, in fact, all the customers in the store are taken back. Both are talking loud the older one steps close to me I kind of step back...the younger guy grabs the customer's food from him and throws it on their back counter. He tells me you don't have to take it another driver will. I said, WOW never have I had an issue here until this moment. I go outside contact GrubHub and notify the customer another driver will be assigned to deliver her order. I apologized for the inconvenience. No one, rather GrubHub or any of the other delivery services contractor should have to deal with such behavior from any person. I do this as a fill in to handle my small expenses. Rather I was a full time employee, no one should ever have to deal with such conduct. I hope their is surveillance in the establishment, so the manager(s) can review the interaction for themselves. I collect orders for customers from McDonald's to Alexander Steakhouse; it's always the low paying establishments whose employee's lose sight of themselves. Your employees need severe training. I have never come in there where the tables/counters are clean. It's always...
Read moreBy far, the worst experience in all our years of eating out. Christmas Eve 2024... I placed a pick-up order through the Jersey Mike's app at 2:34 PM for a 3:30 PM pick-up. Six subs with a mix of toppings. When I got to the restaurant at 3:30 PM, there was a group of 3 getting ready to place an order. I waited briefly and, after the group had paid, went to the counter to ask about my pick-up order. I was told it would be done in a moment. I sat down and waited for 10 minutes. Saw another customer come in and they took that order. As it was being worked on, the same worker asked me about my order again. I, a second time, stated I had placed an order at 2:30 PM for a 3:30 PM pick-up and realized I saw an order receipt still hanging behind the counter, so I pointed out my name on it. Was told it would be done shortly. Saw another customer come in, place an order, and get his order before mine. What is going on?
Shortening this long review... after sitting for 45 minutes, I finally walked out with my order of 6 sandwiches. Only 1 sandwich was made correctly. One sandwich was supposed to have meat including bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, banana peppers, jalapeño peppers... what did it come with? Meat cheese and bacon. All but one sandwich was wrong!
I called the store... they remembered my order as I reminded them of my conversation with them. They apologized saying they would start re-making our order. I told them my son and daughter would be there in 15 minutes with a copy of my order receipt email. My kids had to wait 45 minutes because they had not started re-making my order, and saw other people served before our order was corrected.
What they finally did was taken the original sandwiches and try and correct them. When we finally sat down to eat, none of them were as ordered...
What in the world, Jersey Mike's of East Peoria? We have enjoyed your food in the past, but today was a horrible experience and we don't know if we will be back. Really...
