We recently visited Goschas on Cascade Road for an early afternoon brunch, and I can confidently say it was the best experience I’ve had at this location to date. Although I’ve dined here before, this visit truly stood out for its exceptional service, expanded layout, and unforgettable food. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by a friendly hostess who escorted us to our table and ensured we were comfortable as we waited for our server. Within five minutes, we were warmly welcomed by Darius and his trainee. From the very beginning, Darius impressed us with his attentiveness and extensive knowledge of the menu. He confidently navigated every item, from house favorites to specials of the day, and even described how each dish was prepared—complete with ingredient highlights and preparation times. His passion for the restaurant’s offerings was evident and engaging, making the menu practically come alive. We began our meal with a honey butter biscuit—flaky, warm, and rich with flavor, it was the perfect way to start. To drink, we ordered mango lemonade, coffee, and water. A pleasant detail: the branded water bottles were a thoughtful and stylish touch. We then enjoyed a selection of items including the salmon bites, a single pancake with powdered sugar, and the grits bowl. Every dish was cooked to perfection. The salmon bites were lightly crisped with a sweet glaze and served with a complementary dipping sauce atop fresh lettuce—a delicious blend of texture and flavor. The pancake was large, golden-edged, and accompanied by perfectly melted butter and warm syrup—something I truly appreciated. The grits bowl, filled with savory grits, bacon, eggs, and sausage, was rich and satisfying. There wasn’t a single bite left behind. Throughout the meal, Darius and his trainee checked on us every 10 to 12 minutes, anticipating our needs before we even had to ask. Darius was not only attentive but incredibly observant, bringing over extra napkins, clearing plates discreetly, and making sure we were well taken care of at all times. His trainee was equally kind and eager, guided clearly and respectfully by Darius, whose leadership qualities were unmistakable. It was inspiring to watch him coach and engage her in a meaningful, hands-on way. Another standout moment was when Darius proactively offered to pack warm syrup and butter for my pancake to-go, and even prepared a to-go cup of the mango lemonade, topping off the one I was drinking without being asked. These thoughtful gestures went a long way in making our visit feel truly special. Midway through our meal, the manager on duty stopped by our table to check in and ensure everything was to our satisfaction. Her genuine engagement and warm demeanor reflected a strong sense of hospitality throughout the entire staff. The atmosphere of Goschas was equally pleasant—clean, comfortable, and calm. Soft music played in the background, and the open kitchen allowed us to admire the chefs in action. I appreciated the friendly camaraderie between the kitchen and serving staff, which contributed to a positive and collaborative environment. In summary, this was a five-star dining experience in every sense. Darius went above and beyond, demonstrating not only expert-level service but also leadership and professionalism that elevated the entire experience. His ability to explain the menu in depth, interact graciously with both guests and colleagues, and deliver impeccable service made a lasting impression. Goschas on Cascade has set the bar high, and I would enthusiastically recommend this location to anyone seeking a standout brunch destination. Thank you to Darius and his trainee for delivering an experience that exceeded all...

I joined the Toast waitlist at 12:00 PM, where we were notified via text and on the site that we were #10 in line with a 35–45 minute wait. By 12:35, we were updated as #4, so we left our house and headed over. What should have been a smooth system turned into one of the most frustrating dining experiences I’ve had.
Waitlist and Seating • When we arrived, the hostess acted as though my request for a booth (noted in advance for my mom, who recently had knee surgery) was a burden. • Instead of honoring the request, she tried to seat us at one of the tiny filler tables by the front door. • After waiting again, we were eventually moved to a booth — but the lack of care set the tone for the rest of the visit.
Service Issues • It took 20 minutes to be greeted, and then another 40 minutes inside before we received drinks never offered or provided water. • They were out of sweet tea, which is a basic Southern staple and my mom’s go-to. • Our server struggled with the order — I requested salmon croquettes (on the menu), but she insisted several times that I must mean salmon Benedict. • Drinks (strawberry lemonade) arrived late wanted sweet tea , warm, and without ice. Refills were not free, never informed is which we only found out when the bill came.
Food • When the food finally arrived, the server explained their system was down, causing more delays. • The salmon croquettes were decent, but the grits were bland and uninspired — nothing special. • For a brunch spot that tries to stand out, the food didn’t come close to matching the hype or the wait. The cutlery was wrapped in napkins were completely filthy. We had to eat with plastic.
Environment • We noticed poor management throughout: large parties were left sitting for hours with empty glasses and boxes while smaller tables were ignored. Staff seemed focused on bigger groups, likely because of the automatic 20% gratuity for parties of 5+. • Restrooms were unisex, one was out of order, and when someone opened the broken restroom door, a foul odor spread into the dining area. That should never happen in a restaurant.
The Bill • For two entrées and salmon croquettes, our total was $98 (tip included). • We were also incorrectly charged for a lemonade refill, which the server only removed after I pointed it out. • Menus are only available by QR code, and before you even see the food, you’re met with a long list of rules and notes about tipping. It came across defensive and unnecessary, especially given the service we experienced.
Final Thoughts
I came in wanting to love Gosha and support a Black-owned brunch spot. But between the two-hour waitlist process, dismissive seating, inattentive service, bland food, unclean environment, and questionable billing, this turned into one of the worst brunch experiences I’ve ever had.
I don’t mind tipping generously — I regularly leave 20–40% for great service — but this was absolutely not worth $98 for two people. I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend Gosha’s until they make major improvements in management, service, and...
Read moreThere is an overall lack of even the most basic customer service and professionalism here.
The host could provide no approximate wait time whatsoever to be seated. I reiterate, she would not even provide an approximate wait time.
Once we were seated it took a long time for anyone to acknowledge we existed, no one came…so I just flagged someone over in desperation since they weren’t coming willingly.
The water came with black stuff floating in it. We asked them to replace it but they didn’t, when we asked about it a second time the waitress casually said “oh I forgot, sorry”.
The food came out in a reasonable amount of time so I gave them 1 star for that.
When the food came we did not have utensils, again this is very basic standards. When we asked for utensils the waitress said she would “check and see if we have any in the back because they may still be washing them”…our food sits getting colder and colder (if it ever was hot)…still no utensils. Again in desperation I flag down a different waiter and ask for utensils which after a while finally arrive.
Neither I nor my friend liked our food which was completely tasteless… with the exception being her salmon croquettes which she described as really fishy.
The grits were hard and grainy, not creamy.
The biscuit was the only enjoyable item on either of our plates and it wasn’t even warm.
We tried to add some flavor to the food by adding salt and pepper only to be interrupted by a waitress who asked if she could have our salt and pepper (because other diners needed it and they didn’t have enough for each table).
Let’s sum this up: mystery black stuff in water -Tasteless food -Fishy croquettes -Begging for utensils… which aren’t available because they don’t have enough in order to keep fresh utensils available -Salt and pepper taken because there’s not enough (I understand why the other table needed it badly) mystery wait time from hostess begging for a waitress to take orders and acknowledge our existence grainy and hard grits with cheese thrown on top (not cooked in the grits aka actual cheese grits)
So over $50 later (including tip) I had horrendous food with equally horrendous customer service. I do not recommend this place, because they have not mastered even the most BASIC tenants of customer service. It would have been more effective for me to take $50 out of my wallet and throw it in the trash, because that’s how we were treated.
Thumbs up on the old school RnB though, that’s why I gave 2 stars...
