We had planned on using Dan the cake man. All the cakes looked beautiful online, and we read good reviews. We showed up for our "cake tasting" which little did we know was actually a pitch for a full service catering, wedding planning, and cake making. Well we loved his cake, but we had already chosen a planner and did not care for his catering of food. They even scheduled us another tasting for food, which we were not impressed with. When we informed him that we were not interested in using him for catering or wedding planning, he dropped us for making our cake. Dan doesn't even do the catering/wedding planning portion, it's his business partner. So because we didn't choose his business partner, he dropped us.

We were never interested in using him (or his partner, rather) for catering or wedding planning. We feel completely blind sided, and this is not good business. Now we are 4 months out from our wedding and back to square one with a wedding cake, one of the first things we thought we had checked off our list.

We would love for Dan the cake man to just make the cake and let us choose who we feel comfortable with doing the catering and planning. This post/rant isn't downgrading his product of cake making (his three layered chocolate sample cake was amazing!), but this is a warning to future prospects that he will try and sell you a whole package and could potentially drop you if you don't agree to an...

Unfortunately we did not get to try Dans cake. When we initially reached out for a wedding cake quote and Dan called us in no time. He talked us through the process in deciding flavor and size, and we agreed on the perfect cake. It sounded even better than we’d hoped and the price was unbeatable! We were smitten by Dans character, and were so excited for our wedding cake. Unfortunately our wedding was canceled last minute due to my father’s death and so we reached out to see if we could get a refund. He wasn’t able to provide one, which is perfectly fair, so we asked if it could be donated, perhaps to the children’s hospital. Dan recommended instead donating cupcakes to Ronald McDonald House for thanksgiving. While we may not get to try one of Dans fabulous cakes, we were so grateful to have worked with him. Dan the Cakeman is the absolute sweetest and best baker! We got married in September and he made our amazing wedding cake (2 layers-red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and chocolate cake with chocolate icing all covered in buttercream icing), 3 different types of cookies (chocolate chip, sugar and macadamia nut) and cupcakes (wedding cake with vanilla buttercream icing) and they were all so good!
