I came here the week between Christmas and New Year's, and the demand for tables was high. Long lines to get in, tables left uncleared for over half hour, and staff shortages made for a not so good start to the meal. Many people in line left in frustration, which can't be good for business.
Pro-tip: If you find yourself waiting in a line that doesn't move, but you really want to eat here, ask the wait staff if you can just sit at an uncleared table and just submit your order online using the QR code at the table. You'll get your food faster, and the staff will bus the table when the food arrives. A bit unconventional, I admit, but it works.
Because I ate here midday during the week, I was able to take advantage of the lunch specials, which consist of a dish + soup (wonton, hot and sour, or egg drop) + appetizer (spring roll or crab rangoon wonton), all for $13. It's a good way to eat affordably, family-style, with lots of food.
As for the food, the egg drop soup was the best of the three (the wonton soup came with literally ONE wonton, the hot and sour soup was terrible with an overwhelming vinegar taste). The spring rolls were larger than expected and a much better choice than the standard crab rangoon option. The sole and lamb dishes were excellent values in terms of the plentiful protein portions in the dishes. However, the sole was VERY salty and the lamb got cold quickly (and had dry, inedible pepper skins mixed in). The eggplant dish was good, and much cheaper than the same dish at the Hong Kong restaurant (Hometaste) downstairs.
The wait staff was quite overwhelmed but nothing less than friendly and willing to accommodate. They gave us a crab rangoon to apologize for the delay.
All in all, not a terrible lunch option if you aren't picky, are looking to satisfy a Chinese food craving, and...
Read moreWe ordered the Traditional Grilled Fish – Striped Bass. When it was brought to our table, the server accidentally tilted the dish, and the oil inside spilled onto my wife's pants. Thankfully, the oil wasn’t boiling hot—just lukewarm—or she could have suffered serious burns. As it was, the oil still stained her pants and shirt. I want to be clear that I have no issue with the server herself. She was a kind, polite Mexican lady and clearly felt terrible about the incident. Accidents happen, and her sincere apology was genuinely appreciated.
Shortly after, someone who I assumed to be the manager came over to apologize, and that was the extent of the restaurant’s response.
What disappointed me wasn’t the accident—it was how the management chose to handle (or not handle) the situation. There was no meaningful follow-up, no attempt to offer a gesture of goodwill, and frankly, no indication that they took the incident seriously. It felt like they brushed it off as a minor inconvenience rather than acknowledging the potential severity of what happened.
If I were the manager, I would have taken full responsibility and at the very least comped the dish. That would’ve shown some accountability and respect for our experience. What if the oil had been hotter? Someone could have been seriously injured, and in that case, a lawsuit would likely follow.
We were lucky today—it was only a shirt and a pair of pants that were ruined. But given the situation, I believe some form of compensation would have been appropriate. I’m not angry, because I understand accidents happen. I’m just disappointed that the restaurant’s management didn’t treat it with the seriousness...
Read moreWhen we arrived we waited to be seated and then we’re handed over an iPad to place our order there. Waitress only brought us the water and some paper plates to eat off of, I assume because of the portion size we were given plates to share the food amongst us. A machine brought the food over to us which we thought was neat only thing was that the music played by the robot was really loud and quite obnoxious, but considering it could be to give people a heads up that the robot was coming., to prevent any accidents from happening. We were enjoying our food up until the point when we saw the cook started to clean up the kitchen area. He began by spraying some sort of degreaser to the grill, cooking area and then proceeded to add more cleaning solution directly to the pots where food is made. What made this really bad was that he proceeded to submerge a brush THAT WAS ON THE FLOOR, into that cleaning solution in the pot where foot was being made minutes prior to that. To us this seemed very unsanitary as the brush was literally attached to a broom stick and was on the floor the whole time before he began to “clean”. When my husband paid he tried to explain to the lady if this was common practice for them, she acted like she didn’t know what my husband was talking about and pretty much ignored him and walked away. For this reason we will not be back, the food was decent but grossed me out to think under what conditions is being made especially considering the price...
