This is my first time ordering food from this restaurant, since reviews were outstanding vĂa UberEats. With that said, I did not hesitate to placed an order for dinner.
Perhaps ordering delivery on a Friday during the Dinner rush wasnât the best idea.
We just received our meal and I canât say I loved it! There are definitely lots of room for improvements!
The seafood platter was overly grilled, because the taste of char/burnt was over bearing, and it was way tooooo salty. Excess amount of cuttlefish/squid, a few tiny pieces of octopus (texture was very soft, didnât seem freshly grilled), and 4 pieces of shrimp- very disappointing for $32. I picked at the food, and ate the shrimps, the rest was not edible.
The Greek lemon rice side order was suppose to pair with the seafood platter, unfortunately it was just as salty if not saltier than the seafood platter. Plus, it was missing the lemon flavoring and the rice was over cooked.
Fortunately, the Tzatziki sauce and pita bread helped rebalance the high amount of sodium.
The pita bread arrived warm, except it was quickly hardening as it was cooling, which tells me that this batch of pita bread is not freshly made. It was maybe leftover pita from lunch service, or even overnight. I wish it was soft and fluffy like other pita breads Iâve had from different restaurants.
My husband loved his souvlaki, grilled lamb kabob style. Somehow his rice were well seasoned, flavorful, in comparison to my side order of rice, as opposed to âblandâ with salt. He would reorder this dish again in a heartbeat.
Overall, the food is not worth $110 for the quality, itâs overpriced for overly salty food. I prefer food that are enhanced with seasonings, and not...
Read moreI decided to take a chance on Greek Taverna in Montclair, NJ, based solely on the reviews from a variety of food websites (OpenTable, Yelp, Tormato, etc.) and was glad I did. To start, my girlfriend and I shared appetizers of Pikilia, which is a selection of traditional Greek spreads, Tzatziki, Skordalia, Taramosalata and Melitzanosalata, as well as Htapodi Sta Karvouna, which is marinated grilled octopus. Both were excellent though the basket of pita bread quarters which accompanied the Pikilia was absolutely drowned with olive oil. For the main course I had Paidakia, which is roasted baby lamb chops,. They were accompanied by Patates Psites Sto Fourno, which is quartered baked potatoes with olive oil, lemon and herbs. My girlfriend had the Greek Taverna Solomos, which was a nice Atlantic salmon fillet wrapped with sundried tomatoes, mushrooms and basil dressing in grape leaves. This was accompanied by Greek Lemon Rice ... Other than the pita bread - which was very tasty once blotted off - our dinner was excellent. We will definitely dine...
Read moreMediocre at best. Let me start by saying that I have had MUCH BETTER moussaka at diners at 4am -specifically the River View Diner. Much better food and service than this place. The Moussaka came to us straight out of the microwave and was so damn hot inside I burned my mouth. Not only that, it was absolutely mediocre and the béchamel sauce was very bland, -I've made better moussaka at home. Greek Taverna was a great place and did amazing business around 15-20 years ago. Their gyros were amazing back then and the tzatziki was so fresh and delicious. Not so much now! The gyro we were served came with no flat bread, soggy potatoes, and the worst tzatziki sauce I've had served in a restaurant. I have gotten better tzatziki from the supermarket to be totally honest. The place was usually packed on the weekend back in the day. That's not the case anymore. When we arrived this weekend it was practically empty. I understand why it's empty on the weekends now. I won't be...
