Barrel House Kitchen & Bar — Restaurant in Edinburg

My sister made reservations here for her graduation dinner a week in advance. However, today they told us that they could not find our reservation. We gave them the name of the person that helped us and the manager said no one by that name worked there. My sister called the number she called to make the reservation thinking maybe she mixed up restaurants. The girl that we said made the reservation answered the phone (her name was Missy). She apologized and said she did give the reservation to her manager and wasn’t sure what happened. The manager said they would accommodate so we ended up still going. We showed up and they sat us down, shortly after they told us we had to move because we were seated in the wrong area. We explained how the waitress sat us there and the manager said no and moved us to some high top tables that they scrambled together. Mind you we had two children who needed high chairs and they did not have any high top high chairs for them. Instead they stacked two high chairs on top of each other, safety hazard! In addition, our whole party didn’t fit at the table and some people had to sit apart. My brother in law spoke to the owner explaining our experience and he did not care. He said “people come in here all the time and pretend they have a reservation and they don’t”. Mind you Missy admitted we had a restaurant. Overall, the management and owner is super unprofessional and very disorganized. This was supposed to be a special night for my sister and this place did the opposite of that. Take your money elsewhere where they actually care about their customers and know what they are doing.

Plus the margarita was not good and chicken Gouda pasta...

I took my family to try Barrel House to celebrate the end of the school year for our eldest children and for my son's birthday. Everyone enjoyed every single dish we ordered, from the appetizer (jumbo wings) to the desserts (cheesecake and chocolate decadence). The chicken sandwich was huge, the ribs were amazing and quite literally slid off the bone and the 16 oz steak was enormous and perfectly cooked. My two year old crushed the wings and couldn't get enough of the Parmesan fries. The restaurant is beautifully decorated from top to bottom, the restrooms are immaculate and the bar area is perfect for happy hour with co-workers or watching games on the many TV screens. They also have an indoor stage for music by the bar area. On top of this, they have a large outdoor patio area with another stage for outdoor music. Lastly, they have a private bar area alongside the patio and beautiful strand lighting all over the patio. The back private building has a very nice lounge area as well. I'm very excited that a restaurant of this caliber has opened this far north in the McAllen/Edinburg area. And most importantly despite being open only for a little over a week, the food is already coming out quickly and properly cooked. It's almost unheard-of for a restaurant to be so properly functioning that early on. I'm used to restaurants taking months to work out the kinks in service and food quality. Here they have a large well trained staff and great food. It is such a nice restaurant that my son asked one of the owners of he could work there! For my graduation dinner I chose and made reservations at Barrel House Kitchen + Bar in Edinburg, tx. I had called days ahead of time to make a reservation and was expecting a lot of people. Today we showed up and they said they didn’t have a reservation for us! It was a mess. They then said they can squeeze us in. They seat us, take our drinks, give us our drinks and then the manager comes to the table to say we had to move cause the table we were sitting at was already reserved for another party, mind you they sat us there…They squeezed us on high top tables which was difficult due to having high chairs that weren’t as tall as the high top tables. Also it was not enough room for our whole party and we had to sit separately. We talked to the owner and he seemed not to care. He even had the audacity to state “people come and try to say they have a reservation when they don’t” Highly do not recommend! Very unorganized and unprofessional! And food was NOT great! Today was suppose to be a special day for me and barrel house definitely did not make it special at all! Take your money somewhere else to a place that deserves it.. this place...
