I remember going into this bakery with my mom. That was decades ago. I continued enjoying the biscuits, donuts and everything this bakery's reputation was built on. Through the years, I also brought my children. You knew you were home, when, after 6-7 hour trip with El Fenix at the forefront of your thoughts, you finally took that first bite into that biscuit!! Home. All the good feelings came back. I couldn't say enough about how wonderfully made the biscuits were. Anyone who knows me, knows I lived for these biscuits. It was the highlight of my visits home. I made regular trips specifically to get thier biscuits. I'm deeply saddened that since new management ( I think or maybe it was sold and might have retained its name some years ago) the goodness has been lost. I was able to speak with management sometime ago about how the biscuits were lacking. But even so, I'm still disappointed. The biscuits are always dry, salty and overall, have lost all thier savory appeal. I have decided to replicate the recipe in an effort to find what has been lost. My decision to post this review isn't about attacking anyone. It is about the mere fact that I feel Edinburg has lost a beautiful piece of its heritage. Though I moved several years ago, I still hold Edinburg, Tx in high regard. Home, history and heart. Unfortunately, the name no longer fits "El Fenix". I feel that the "Fenix" has has not risen from the ashes. I hope that this review captures your attention and creates a desire for El Fenix to resurrect what...
Read moreWas recommended the Donuts, and since are my favorite treat my favorites, I gave it a try and guess what I had some before and I come back for more because I love your donuts. But one thing that I truly recommend for this establishment is to work on their customer service. Shouldnât even give you one start. Lady in short hair when you have a lot of customers take a breather and let them know you will get to them as soon as soon can DONOT SNAP on them. To the young lady in glasses when a customer asks you if you have a specific item donât get upset and make a face. I know itâs 8 am and you have to open early maybe you are not a morning person, I donât know but keep in mind that because of your customers you have a pay check. If you ladies havenât taken a class of customer service take on one line it will help you ladies and the business. I end up leaving with out purchase anything just disappointed the way you ladies treated...
Read moreIf I wasn't from the valley I would rate them lower 1 star because of their service. Instead of putting you on hold they will not answer or hang up on you. Instead of having a store front open during their listed hours of operation they are known for closing early without notice. I know that they have changed ownership many times throughout their history and all of them had run their store differently, yet,one thing remains the same EL FENIX BAKERY makes the BOMB GLAZED AND CHOCOLATE DONUTS! Well, them and a other delicious confections! After waiting a few years for the reviews to come in I see they still hang up on You, their cakes still look like they are made by a kindergartener, no offense to kindergarteners by the way, and they close early unlike most businesses that stay open until 4 or 5pm I decided to give them 2 stars instead of three. The ownership and management...
