Dakshin Express — Restaurant in Edison

I visited Dakshin express for the first time with my family yesterday (JUNE 23, 2024) and although the food (Spicy Masala dosa, plain dosa and idly) was amazing, the service was absolutely terrible. I WILL NOT RETURN!!

As we walked in, the male wearing the glasses sitting at the front desk greeted us and told us we can sit anywhere. After we sat down, he did not bother to provide us with the menu nor inform us that the menu had to be scanned via the QR code. We eventually figured that out ourselves.

Then, we had to call him over to take our order as he was sitting and eating snacks while on his phone at his desk. He seemed the least interested in serving us.

While we were waiting for our food, I saw him opening picking his nose and digging deep. Once he saw we were looking, he hid his hand away. He didn't wash it nor clean it. He served us food from those same dirty hands. I watched as he went into the kitchen, grabbed spoons and brought them alongside the food. We DID NOT USE THOSE SPOONS.

He proceeded to sit at his desk and continue picking his nose and did not bother to get us and ask if we needed anything or if we were done our meal and were ready to pay.

The food was amazing, however, this restaurant needs a server who has more etiquette, customer service skills, and knows about hygiene. How would he feel knowing his food is being served by someone who was digging deep into their nose? Absolutely disgusting. I WANT A RESPONSE BY THE MANAGER REGARDING...

2023 Edit: Ask for the itemized bill before giving tip. I paid 15% service charge and 20% (mistakenly) in tip. They have stopped providing itemized paper bill where you can see what is being charged. It feels bad when you loose hard earned money. They should not prompt customers for tip when already service charge is included in the bill. Moreover quality of sambhar and chutneys has declined and also customer traffic as apparent.

To the owners of Dakshin Express: I read the last 1 year reviews and it seem you guys are going down hill. Single star ratings are climbing up and people are complaining about declining taste, including me. I think management is too distracted or lost interest in the food business. Once, it used to be a go to place for many people.

We visited Dakshin Express restaurant with a group of 15 friends and ordered a variety of dishes including ginger fish, tandoori fish, Gobi Manchurian, Apollo fish, various biryanis(chicken biryani, Dakshin special chicken biriyani, mutton biriyani) and more. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing. The chicken biryani was spoiled, and the fish dishes were undercooked and emitted a raw odor. The ginger fish was overly sweet and floury, while the Apollo fish and Gobi Manchurian were unexpectedly sour. The biryanis were notably substandard. The service staff was polite and did their best to address our concerns, but the response from the management was unsatisfactory. The chef insisted that the food was prepared correctly, and we did not receive a proper resolution from the manager or the owner, who are ultimately responsible. I would not recommend this restaurant, as it failed to meet basic standards of quality...
