Chamkila Express — Restaurant in Edison

An abysmal experience right from the moment we stepped into the so-called restaurant on Oct 19th 2024. Everything at fault - courtesy, hospitality, food, service and ambience. There was no staff to direct us to where we were supposed to sit. After a while we had to request one of the staff passing by to take our order. While finalizing the starter order, upon asking the concerned staff about the spices and vegetables used in certain common dishes, they had no clue, and they admitted on several occasions that they were new and were not aware. We appreciate their honest and naive response, and I don't blame them BUT it's the management who is the real culprit who does not give proper and adequate training, direct these young staff to attend to the customers directly without the know-how. We ordered some starters including Pakoras, Mix Grill and juice after consulting one of the manager. We waited a long time, during which several reminders were sent to them but to no avail. We could see that Mix Grill and juice that we ordered was taken to some other guests table and being served. The other customers denied having ordered it and returned them. They took it back inside the kitchen and brought it again only to be served to another customer who also denied having ordered. We were watching all this mishandling and were bemused, frustrated and at the same time experiencing the blemish and blunders being created out of mismanagement. We finally had to intervene and get those lost foods to its rightful owners. The pineapple juice or rather pulp was not even at room temperature. Hence, we requested some ice which was provided after 30 minutes and that too after 3 reminders. We were informed that all soda's were at room temperature hence we did not order them. Mix Grill was supposed to include lamb chops but was not present in it. Upon asking, they found out that the cooking staff could not locate the frozen lamp chops and hence they were not included. That was nasty....... That's it. We decided to settle and leave. While we had already settled the payment and were about to leave, a supposed manager or his deputy brought in Pakoras that we ordered 1.45 hrs. ago. We refused to accept it which was not liked by presumably the manager - Mr Raj. He seemed to be exhibiting his unhappiness and was overheard informing his staff not to entertain us. This shows his arrogance and if he is the manager, it's a wake-up call for the management to show him to door since if he continues to do so, it would be curtains drawn on the business. Make that arrogant guy understand that your's is a service industry and you have to be polite and courteous at all times. On the contrary, even after having so many issues, we did not retaliate and exhibit our frustration for the pathetic service and food itself. That's why , you get a big Zero star from us. Today me and group of my friends went to King Palace AKA Dhaba Edison. I don’t even know where to start from. Food - It was delicious and custom made as per our taste, spice level, and quantity was filling. It had a flavor of restaurant yet home-cooked. Presentation was amazing as well.

Service - I don’t know anyone in entire New Jersey, who can beat the level of Service King Palace/Dhaba Edison provides. They are welcoming, polite, courteous, fast, and efficient. They made each and every one of us felt important and the owner himself came to check on us several times to make sure we were ok. Our likes and dislikes were considered. We made advance reservation before going to the restaurant, And they not only just set up the table for us, but made it look like it was a celebration/party for us. It was fully decorated, and we even had our own personal photo booth. They also gave us a little dance floor and our own music to dance on. 100 /10

Ambience - As we walked in, every single one of us said “wow”. It was spacious, pretty, beautiful, calm, perfect… We had only planned to stay there for two hours, and ended up being there for four hours. Plenty of parking space… we couldn’t stop ourselves and took a tour of the entire facility as it was so beautiful… The restaurant, Lounge, and the banquet hall all three.

Excellent food, service, atmosphere, staff, owner and our experience this evening.

Highly recommend for private events as they have a beautiful Banquet Hall that can accommodate 275 people, They also have a Lounge for private gatherings, and social meet ups and of course a fine dinning place. One stop for all your social Foodie needs.

I usually never write a review but today was very poor experience and I wish I can make it 0 stars. Visited Sunday night as party of 6+2 kids and restaurant had 3 tables occupied. We directly ordered main course with their punjabi specialties and hakka noodles as mild for kids. Food took arnd 1 hr which was surprising with restaurant not that crowded. Noodles were tasteless, spice and filled with black pepper. On checking with server he mentioned “this is what we cook as mild take it or order something else, To which we only asked if pepper can be excluded and he agreed to make again. Noodles which came again had no salt and had a bad oil smell(may be used multiple time from frying), on asking owner to check she tasted and told will make other. Same noodle came again with modification of just tomato ketchup added(we can make out from the taste and quantity its not new but same being sent again). We ordered veg fried rice and courtesy of server was good he came and asked how do we want mild/medium/spicy to which we said medium as it was for us but when the rice served by different server she mentioned its very mild and no spices added and then she brought all the sauces and vinegar to mix as per our need. Overall pathetic experience with no good food, service(for which by default there is 20% service charge, we did get 5% discount though after bad experience) and not at all close to...
