Walking into Tommy’s Tavern + Tap feels like stepping into the perfect mix of casual energy and elevated comfort dining. With a menu that stretches from wood-fired pizzas to hearty tavern classics and a bar that could hold its own against any upscale cocktail lounge, Tommy’s has carved out its niche as more than just your typical sports bar or neighborhood grill. After tonight’s visit, one thing is clear: this place knows how to deliver quality across the board. But if you’re going, don’t even think about skipping the cheese curds.
Let’s start with what might be the most surprisingly addictive item on the menu—the cheese curds. Biting into these little golden nuggets is a religious experience. Perfectly fried to achieve that elusive crispy shell, the curds give way to melty, squeaky cheese inside. They’re served hot, fresh, and with just enough seasoning to make each bite flavorful without overpowering the star of the show—the cheese itself.
What makes Tommy’s cheese curds stand out is the quality of the cheese and the restraint in the batter. Too many places overload their curds with thick, doughy coatings. Not here. The coating is light, crisp, and doesn’t leave you feeling like you’ve just downed a deep-fried bowling ball. It’s hard not to order a second round.
One of the most consistent highlights of Tommy’s Tavern + Tap is the service. Whether you’re sitting at the bar, dining on the patio, or nestled into one of the cozy booths, the staff manages to strike that ideal balance between friendly and professional. From host to server to bartender, the whole team seems genuinely invested in making sure you have a good time.
While taverns aren’t typically known for standout salads, Tommy’s breaks the mold. Their salad offerings are varied, vibrant, and satisfying enough to be a main course—especially if you’re looking to balance out some of the heavier fare.
Let’s be honest: not every tavern takes desserts seriously. Some phone it in with a few pre-made options, barely passable as after-dinner fare. But Tommy’s? They go all in.
The dessert menu isn’t enormous, but it’s curated to satisfy just about any sweet tooth. If you’re in the mood for something rich and decadent, try the Chocolate Lava Cake. It oozes molten chocolate from the center with every forkful. The plating alone is Insta-worthy, but it’s the flavor that keeps you coming back. The balance of bitter dark chocolate and sweetness is spot-on.
For something lighter (or at least feels lighter), the New York-style cheesecake is velvety smooth with a buttery graham cracker crust. It’s the kind of dessert that pairs perfectly with a strong espresso or after-dinner cocktail, especially one from their well-stocked bar.
Tommy’s Tavern + Tap is the kind of place you can rely on—for a casual lunch, a fun night out, or even a last-minute dinner when you just want something reliably good. While the menu offers broad appeal, it’s clear that care has gone into the details, from the quality of ingredients to the attentive service.
But above all else, the experience is simply enjoyable. You come for the cheese curds, and you stay for everything else: the thoughtful salads, killer desserts, and a staff that treats you like a regular even on your first visit.
Whether you’re looking to catch a game, satisfy a serious comfort food craving, or just indulge in a gooey bread pudding after a long day, Tommy’s...
Read moreSuper disappointing experience.... (and it's unfortunate that I'm writing this, because the rooftop looks so cute and I was looking forward to experiencing the food and drinks upstairs). I came here with family after driving all the way from Northern Virginia in hopes of grabbing dinner on the rooftop at around 7:30 PM. We asked to have our name put on the waiting list and were told there were about 10 guests ahead of us. No problem. We we totally fine with waiting and found a seat downstairs at the bar (the drinks were really good by the way, specifically the spicy margaritas, and Joe who was behind the bar and who had just started at Tommy's was great - his service and personality were amazing). The disappointment came after about an hour and a half, when checking on the status of our position for our table on the rooftop. The hostess let us know there were about 6 people ahead of us, but something told me to check the phone number they had on file for contacting us - it was completely wrong. After making the correction, and after about another hour and a half later (at this point, it's probably like 9:45pm), I was told there was one more party that needed to be sat before our table was ready. It starts getting later and later and around a little after 10:00pm, maybe at this point it's like 10:20pm, I go up to check once more, to find the hostess podium and the hostesses gone. Like vanished, lol. The atmosphere had completely changed to like a "day party/bottle service" vibe. After finding someone who worked there, I asked where the hostesses went, and they let us know that come 10:00pm, the rooftop turns into this "party" and no food is served upstairs. Very disappointing to learn after going up and downstairs multiple times and waiting for nearly hours. You'd think the hostess would have common sense to have notified us at 9:45pm, my last ascent up the stairs to check on our table, that food is no longer going to be served in 15 minutes.. We asked for the manager and his solution was completely useless and proceeded to tell us that he's had someone upstairs for 9 hours and he can't tell people when to leave. The manager led us downstairs and asked the hosts in the main dining area to get us seated right away into a booth. Poor solution - if we wanted to eat downstairs, we would have stayed at the bar where we were. We ended up leaving. The management of the upstairs rooftop is a joke and needs work. This location also needs to train their team on common sense, attention to detail when taking customers' phone numbers, effective communication (especially an hour before food service ceases) and hospitality skills. If you're still reading this and want to know how upstairs works if you plan on coming here to have drinks AND food, definitely know that at 10:00pm , food...
Read moreI have been trying to work directly with the district manager, Michael, regarding a serious and heartbreaking incident that happened at Tommy’s Tavern involving my three year old daughter. Unfortunately, after being passed off to the vendor’s insurance adjuster, I have been ignored and left without proper follow up or accountability. I have spoken to multiple managers including Edison who confirmed he received my emails but ignored them after in person telling me to email him. After calling they just pass me off.
As a hairstylist, I understand that when something happens through my business even if a product I purchased causes an issue I am still personally responsible to my client. Tommy’s Tavern needs to understand that same responsibility. The injury happened inside their restaurant. Both the restaurant and vendor needs to be head accountable!
While dining at Tommy’s Tavern, my daughter bit into a rock hidden inside her sweet potato tots, which cracked her two front teeth. Days after I came into the restaurant expressing heartbreak, crying, and trying to find a resolution the manager who completed the incident report tried to joke and offered us more tater tots, as if what happened was funny. It was deeply insensitive, ignorant, and hurtful. Even Michael, the district manager, agreed it was a ridiculous comment, but sadly, he has been ignoring me the most since.
Michael personally saw my daughter’s damaged teeth in person, viewed the X-rays, and was shown the before and after photos. He knows exactly how serious this is. My daughter is a child actress and model, and now her career is suffering because of the damage to her teeth and appearance. This situation has affected her emotionally, physically, and professionally at only three years old.
On top of this, I personally informed the staff that I am vegan, and I was served Brussels sprouts with hidden bacon covered in a thick, creamy sauce. I became violently ill for days after unknowingly eating meat something I haven’t consumed in almost six years. No one has taken responsibility for that either.
I have also reached out to corporate via email with no response. I tried to handle this privately, respectfully, and professionally. I did not want to leave a public review, but after months of being ignored, I feel I have no choice.
I used to really love this restaurant. But what has happened to my daughter and the way we have been treated since is completely unacceptable.
Tommy’s Tavern must take responsibility. My three year old daughter deserves better. I deserve better. Their customers deserve better.
I am still hoping someone from corporate will finally step in, take this seriously, and do what is right.
(I will be attaching a photo of the rock that was found inside my daughter’s sweet...
