Absolutely Disappointed â Never Coming Back
I donât usually leave reviews, but my experience at UMI and Sushi Buffet was beyond unacceptable. From the moment we walked in, it felt like the place was being run with zero regard for quality, customer service, or hygiene.
The sushi looked like it had been sitting out for hours â dried out, warm, and clearly not fresh. Most of the hot food trays were barely filled or looked stale. Some of the seafood had a suspicious smell, and the cooked items were either overcooked or lukewarm. It didnât feel safe to eat, let alone worth the price. And donât even get me started on the dessert section â cheap, tasteless, and unappetizing.
Tipping should be based on service, not forced. Especially when the service was minimal â no refills, no clearing plates, and staff barely acknowledged our table.
Hereâs where things get serious. The entire place felt dirty. Tables were sticky, the floors were messy, and worst of all â there were mosquitoes flying around the food stations and dining area. Yes, mosquitoes. Thatâs not just gross, thatâs a major health code violation. Itâs completely unacceptable for any restaurant to allow that kind of unsanitary condition. I will be reporting this to the local food inspection and health department because this level of negligence is dangerous.
Donât waste your money or risk your health. The food was subpar, the tipping policy is sneaky, and the environment was absolutely unsanitary. There are plenty of other sushi buffets that are clean, respectful, and transparent. This one isnât worth your time. Never...
Read moreThis place is extremely disappointing, especially comparing to Umi at Deptford. The snow crab was not refilled for about 2 hours; the sushi station is extremely slow, both nigiri and sashimi were refilled only once during our entire stay there (5:30p-7:30p), with very little choices/amount. I get it - it is a Monday evening, but the place was 70% filled, and this is a $35 buffet. Without those items, it is absolutely not worth the money. The items missing: Buddha soup, soy sauce duck, can/bottle drink,s rambutan, dessert varieties (e.g. Mousse, peach gum drink), sashimi items (scallops, Ika, eel, etc.)
The quality of the food wasnât even good - the snow crab was watery and flaky (understandably, as it was not kept fresh on ice), the short rib was extremely dry. The only outstanding item was crawfish - it was seasoned well, but again it is a $25 buffet item, not a $35 buffet item.
This was a birthday celebration, we mentioned it on the way in, there was no check in on us what-so-ever. Service to take the plates away was fast; waiter only offered to refill the drink 20 mins before were about to leave. Providing food at dinner peak time should be the basic 101 at any buffet, and Umi at Atlantic City failed big time.
We are always full one hour after eating at the Deptford Umi, but here we werenât. We feel like we were eating leftovers from whatever is left from Sunday. We never waste food at buffet, so we ended up eating extremely slowly while waiting around for the items we want. Eventually there just werenât much to eat - it is just that...
Read moreThe waitresses were EXTREMELY disrespectful. Every time I needed a drink refill or if I had a question, they would huff and puff. They would walk past my table, and when they would stop at my table, they would just nod and act like they were listening, meanwhile they weren't listening. When I would get my drinks, it would be 10 minutes after, even though I see them lounging around and not doing anything. Also, the crab legs were so cold and filled with water, even though they were at the hot bar. All the food was cold and it looked old. When my family and I got the lobster deal, that was take a picture and post it to Facebook so you can get a free lobster, but when I tell you that lobster SUCKED, it really SUCKED. It was filled with so much water, and there was no seasoning, and it tasted old. The water that was cooked with it was definitely not changed for a long time. When I was eating it, I asked for claw cutters, and the waitress pulled out claw cutters from the DIRTY BIN, and she literally gave them to me acting like I didn't know. The waitresses would talk in Japanese and stare at my family, and they were DEFINITELY talking bad about us. When my family went to pay, the waitresses got mad because we only left them a 15 dollar tip, and they were extremely ungrateful, and in my opinion, they didn't deserve anything because of how bad the service was, and paying 150 dollars for that meal is a waste of money because of how bad it was. And this place is definitely a 0/10 my family and I won't be...
