We checked in on Friday night, Dec. 30, 2022. We learned that some of the rooms were out of service because pipes had frozen the previous weekend when it was very cold. Fortunately, they still had a room for us, of the type we had reserved.
I am a stickler for good lighting in hotel rooms. We had a burned out light bulb - the one that goes on when someone flicks the switch by the door when entering the room. We swapped the bulb from a lamp with this one, and we now had the one by the door working. But now we needed one for the lamp. The man at the front desk, Tracy, told us that maintenance had already gone home, and he didn't know where the bulbs were kept, but he got one for us from one of the unavailable rooms. Unfortunately, that one didn't work either.
Saturday morning, when we left to go out for a while, I reported the burned-out bulb to the woman at the front desk. We watched as she wrote it in a notebook that contained other requests. When we came back Saturday afternoon, the bulb still hadn't been changed. I went down to the front desk to see about getting another one. The woman on duty then told me she would send someone up to replace it "in 10 minutes." When I got back up to the room, I discovered that the overhead kitchen light was no longer working - a safety issue, since that light illuminated the cooking area. I called down to the front desk and added a request to fix this to my original request.
Long story short, when we left to go out for New Year's Eve, no one had come to fix our lights, despite two more calls to the front desk to check the status of our requests. I wanted to stop at the front desk on the way out to tell them that it would be okay if they went into the room to fix the two light issues, but the person there was busy helping another guest who was in the middle of checking in.
Either they did come in to fix the kitchen light, or the problem corrected itself, because it was working again on New Year's Day morning when we woke up. (We were probably too exhausted to check it when we came in from our night out.) But the bulb in the lamp was never fixed. By then, we had decided that it was no use in contacting the front desk about this any more. I hoped that maybe they would finally come on Sunday and replace it, but they didn't.
This is a hotel stay that otherwise would have gotten 5 stars from me, but I am only giving it 3 stars because of the unkept promise of getting us a light bulb "in 10 minutes" or even by the time we checked out almost 48 hours later. I have stayed at hotels over the years that gave me light bulbs to make the change itself. Others have made good on promises to have someone come up fairly quickly to fix matters. One hotel apologized to me that the non-working light required the services of an electrician, which they couldn't get done over a weekend, instead of promising to me that it would be done, without an apology after it...
Read moreThe reception and welcome from Jessica was outstanding. This lady delivers warm, personable hospitality. Jessica carefully selected the suite location choice and blocked it during a pre-arrival phone call. Our late arrival (Mid-Night) was honored and the arrival went smoothy. ||Every request made to the housekeeping staff was promptly delivered with a smile. As a former hotelier I was impressed with the quality of service.. no request was ignored and all quickly responded to delivered with a gracious smile.||Our stay was for 10 nights over the Labor Day weekend. We did have an opportunity to experience the hotel in depth. First, this was one of our few journeys since COVID began so much has changed in the industry as a whole. This property is well maintained and exceptionally clean. The footprint of the property with multiple access doors requires some adjustment, but once made it is generally easy to park near the closest access to your room. ||Great location for shopping and the airport. The Walmart across the street is very busy but convenient. The noise level is tolerable.||Property Review - The best way to describe it would be "Retro 60's" The decor package desperately needs an upgrade. However, it is well maintained and clean. The property gets a lower rating for "noise" intrusion.. There was a frequent thumping of foot traffic from the suite above, leaving us somewhat dismayed at the lack of sound insulation between floors. Several times alarms, not ours, startled us awake thinking they were "fire alarms " around 4am, only after a call to the desk, we learned they must just be clock alarms from nearby rooms. The property is heavily occupied by workers in the area I was told. ||The beds were exceptional and very comfortable and the pillows and linen the same. The kitchen area was a little "light" in basic supplies but sufficient. Upon arrival "Midnight" the room smelled of an odor.. perhaps "fish having been cooked" and the front desk came to spray which did temporarily mask the odor. The odor persisted throughout our stay but only a minimal distraction. We found the TV's small and hard to view from anywhere in the suite. In a world of large home TV's these were the size of a computer monitor. (Back to a need...
Read moreInteresting arrival, we get a room on the 4th floor and take the elevator up. There is a full size refrigerator blocking the hallway. My husband squeezed through and found a housekeeper to help him move it to the side so we could fit through with the rest of our stuff. A bit bizarre in timing, it was 4pm wouldn't you think if they were moving a fridge they'd finish the task and not just leave it?
We got a 1 bedroom with a king bed and a sofa sleeper. Ended up being an accessible room which didn't matter to me. Our sconce light outside our room was missing the shade. Kind of tacky. In our room there was absolutely no sofa bed bag at all. We requested linens before heading out for dinner. When we arrived later we got the stack of linens but absolutely no pillows for the sofa bed. Kind of strange. I called and asked for two pillows and they were like we will see I don't think we have any down here. Thankfully they delivered two pillows. There was only two bath towels, two hand towels and one washcloth for the towel selection in the room.
The room had some tired areas, the bathroom wallpaper was coming undone and had some stains to it. The bathroom door lock was wonky and seemed to self lock itself at times. The faucet in the bathroom sink was set so far back that you barely had an inch off the sink wall for the water to trickle down making it difficult to actually wash your hands.
You could tell this hotel was older with hodge podge fixings. The pillows were severely lumpy. The king mattress was a taco.
For breakfast it seemed sparse at first but then I realized it was pretty decent and the ladies were on top of their game. They kept stocking the food all the way to closing time. There were eggs and French toast sticks (the soft edible kind not the deep fried hard ones) and two different kinds of sausages as well as chobani yogurts and an oatmeal bar and then three kinds of cereal. They did have oat milk available as well.
I'd stay here again if I had to but I didn't feel it was a $400 hotel experience at all but it probably cost that for it's proximity to...
