I have been going to this place since their opening day about 4 years ago. I used to come in every week with my whole family and have brought just about every person I know here because I loved their boba and what the place stood for as a small women owned business that uses more natural ingredients. My whole family would talk to the mother and daughter who own the place. I've tried giving this place multiple tries after bad experiences over the past year. On one occasion, I asked the owner if a seasonal drink could be nondairy if I changed the milk. She said yes and gave me a nondairy tea with cheese foam on top. She gave me a hard time about remaking it when I explained that I asked for it nondairy and couldn't drink the cheese foam. Unfortunately, after today, I can no longer recommend this place. I am usually good about ordering nondairy milk, but I realized the second I took a sip of my drink that I forgot to change the milk this time and spit it out in the trash immediately. I then waited in line to try and sort it out. This is when the owner approached asking if something was wrong with the drink. I explained that I'm lactose intolerant and I forgot to ask for a nondairy milk. This was also one of the few times the staff didn't ask if whole milk was fine. I told the owner that I could pay, assuming I would pay the difference in the milk as I wasn't going to drink the dairy one. Rather than understanding the mistake, the owner charged me the almost $7 again for the nondairy version. At that point, I told her I'd be taking the original drink to give away if I had to pay twice. $14 for a stomach ache and a drink. I'm not mad at the boba or the place as a whole, the staff is very friendly, I love the decor and local small business products inside. But I think the owner needs to take a step back and remember how they used to service their customers.
Edit: Thank you for your reply and making me aware of the new policy, I must have missed that sign. Perhaps if you refuse to remake drinks for customers, you should also reconsider having your employees double check whether the customer would like your standard milk to ensure no reorders need to be made. As I'm sure I'm not the only lactose intolerant person. You WERE very accommodating in the past years when you remade my drink to be nondairy maybe 2 other times, asking for a drink to be nondairy and getting cheese foam was YOUR fault. Thank you for your past accommodations. You're right, it was MY mistake for choosing to go to your business again. As long as you're happy with how you run your business, that's all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell, I know this is not everybody's cup of tea, but I LOVE this place!!
I love this place because they make their flavors using real ingredients in house, like real fruit or real taro root. This means that I get to take in fruit (wink wink) when I drink my fruity drink rather than artificial fake syrup. But this also means that their flavors are not intense as what many people are used to with those commercial syrups. This also means that their taro drink does not have that shinning purple color many are used to.
Also, the price tags are also a little steep compared to most places. But well, buying real thing is never cheap, right?
In most boba places, I stick to unsweetened milk tea with boba. It can be regular black milk tea, or milk tea with jasmine green tea, oolong tea, pu-er tea, or whatever the place has in house. I stay away from any syrupy or powdery drinks by all means. For Boba Mi Amor, I started with their jasmine milk tea in their soft opening. It was great, but not really "wow" honestly.
Then I got to try their taro latte. That's WOW! First time ever I got to drink real taro drink outside of my house in El Paso. I am so happy about that just because it's on the menu. That being said, the natural taro taste is just not that strong, so I was slightly dissatisfied. The next time, I fixed it by asking for extra taro as a topping. Now, that's spot on!! (dancing~)
Another thing I tried and fell in love with is the Matcha Mango Latte with Egg Pudding topping. The Matcha Latte and the house Mango puree were both good by themselves, but great when they came together. What really impressed me was their egg pudding. Honestly, I did not expect this to be house-made as well. I haven't check with the lovely owner ladies yet, but I am decently confident that they make their egg pudding themselves by the texture and taste... according to my almost 30-year boba drinking experience. (lol, yes, I came from the island where boba drink was invented, so....) Their egg pudding's taste is something between vanilla panna cotta and flan. Heavenly! I am going to start adding egg pudding to all my drinks in the future.
I am pretty sure Boba Mi Amor is going to ruin my diet plan this winter, but well, I just need to work out more for the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'd have to give my favorite boba spot a solid 5 stars. Not only is this cute little spot local owned, but it is also local operated. Seldom will you be served by an employee, which makes the service all the more remarkable.
When you enter this space, you are greeted by a cute, French style and aesthetic. Suddenly, the hustle and bustle of the city streets are transformed into a retro 50's French cafe. I think what would complete the look would be to update the flooring, as the tile floors do not really tie into the vibe.
The boba is delicious. Just the right balance of firmness and chewiness. I can't speak for all the boba flavors, as I'm a creature of habit. I tend to get the fresh taro. I like to add egg pudding along with the boba pearls. The taro is unlike all the other boba spots around town. They use actual fresh taro. And unlike other boba spots, they give you tons of options-whole milk, non dairy, oat, soy, etc.
One thing I wish was different about this place is that I wish it was closer to me. Although, maybe that's a good thing, otherwise, I'd probably spend all my food...
