El Zarape Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in El Paso

I was reluctant to write this review. When I eat out, I take many things in consideration: the location, the ambiance, the customer service and the food. I have to have ALL of these things in order to give 5 stars. That being said, we had a little trouble finding the location, as we are visiting here. Once inside, the decor was a little overwhelming for me. I completely understand paying homage to our military. Quite a few of my family have served over the years, including in the Vietnam War, so I get that. But again for me, it was overwhelming. We were not greeted immediately, so we were unfamiliar with the protocol; are we to wait to be seated or find a seat and wait? So we sat down. The service was friendly and prompt. The chips and salsa were really good. I no longer eat meat, but not a vegan, so I ordered the bean and cheese enchiladas. This is not on the menu, but they made it for me. The meal was really good and the red sauce was excellent. Not sure if our server was in training, she looked like she was 11 or 12, but she did an amazing job. I am compelled to express my utmost dissatisfaction with the culinary experience I recently had at your establishment. The inordinate wait time of approximately 30 minutes was unacceptable, and the quality of the food was severely lacking.

The papas con chorizo burrito, which I specifically ordered, arrived with burnt chorizo and French fries instead of the traditional papas. This deviation from the standard recipe was not communicated to me prior to my order being placed.

Upon expressing my concerns to the manager, I was informed that this is the customary method of preparing burritos at your establishment. This explanation is unsatisfactory, as it does not address the poor quality of the ingredients used.

Went in today and found a piece of hair in my food, the waiter was amazing at handling the situation but the people in the kitchen were not, didn’t apologize or offer anything they acted like it wasn’t anything new. When I went to pay the women at the register was very sassy, and didn’t even explain that our order wasn’t on her system, just very sassy was like, “what was your order”, o told her and she goes I need the whole order, then I ask is our order not popping out she goes no we have to manually do this, so give me your order that’s why I am telling you this, she wasn’t very polite at all, I asked to remove the plate of food I returned due to finding a hair in it and she again proceeded to have this weird/nasty look on her face.
