A lovely little spot to grab a quick breakfast. Savage Goods is all about El Paso, from the gift shop items featuring local artists work to the friendly people who work there, if you make Savage Goods your only stop in El Paso, you’ll get a true EPTX experience. It’s located one minute from the freeway and downtown EP, in the heart of Sunset Heights historic district. The building used to be a local convenience store until it closed in the early 2000s, but thanks to revitalization efforts the area has become a popular spot for students visiting from nearby UTEP and community college (which is right across the street) as well as business people from downtown and the Museum district (a short trolley ride away). They offer fresh coffee and house baked pastries and donuts, as well as a variety of made to order breakfast items including: burritos, tacos, sandwiches and several brunch options. They also offer a limited beer and wine menu, and some lunch options. If you’re in a hurry use their online ordering for quick pickup, or order in person and enjoy the morning inside their spacious dining area or on their patio. This place really is a gem, and I highly recommend it to anyone, local or just passing through. Bonus for this place, they have a very small parking lot, but it’s located on the trolley route(the trolley rides are always free), so you can take a ride before or after and see the city from inside an air conditioned renovated trolley car! Great for kids, and adults, you really should stop by and try their fresh...
Read moreThis place started with a great concept but it has now become elitist and pretentious. Perhaps this place was created to attract a specific ethnic group, it looks like they forgot to acknowledge that this a community of minorities. It’s super overpriced, is $9.50 for a sandwich with chips and I am not talking about a real well served sandwich, I meant two pieces of bread with lettuce and tomato and olive oil on the inside and a side of potato chips! Yes, you heard right, they serve potato chips from a bag as your side and a sandwich that won’t alleviate your hunger for $9.50. They are approaching this business strategy as they were located in California. I think they forgot to check the socio economics of the area. Get this, a single donut there is over $2 dlls, even Dunkin’ Donuts costs half of that and taste better. When I inquired about it, I was told that prices are high because one of the owners is a baker and she makes all the bread that’s consumed there. If you belong to a minority group and would like to experience spending time eating around wealthy white collar people, then this is the place for you, but make no mistake, you will not be accepted to be part of their group. Or if you are rich or have a lot of money that you need to spend in a short amount of time and receive little food in exchange, then this place might be for you. Customer service is good by regular employees; however, management and head baker will treat you like second class citizen if your appearance doesn’t...
Read morePlace has the potential to be amazing so I'll start with the positives. The place is located in a beautifully renovated building in an up and coming historic neighborhood. I love to see more design-conscious places coming up in El Paso, particularly those that revitalize our historic neighborhoods. The food is excellent, particularly if you're looking for vegan/ vegetarian items.
But they need to improve on a couple big things before it's a five star in my book. First - the portion sizes. I went for lunch and paid over $15 for a small sandwich, small cup of soup, and iced tea. It was delicious but I left hungry. If they're going to be a true restaurant, they need to have more substantial food on their menu.
Alternately, maybe they want to be a bar/ cafe with light food. That's great too. But they close at 8pm - far too early for even the chillest bar. It would be a great place to have a casual drink or listen to a low-key concert. But that can't happen with their current hours. And they're only open a few hours all weekend - not good for a coffee shop that could attract students who want to study.
Already a great spot, and could be an even better one if they work on the...
