Went to support our local triple AAA, minor league baseball team, The Chihuahuas, at a home game against Las Vegas, Aviators. Although we lost, I still had a great time at the, "Ol ball game". The park is big, beautiful, well kept, and definitely family oriented, however, there are some few drawbacks. First, finding somewhere to park, yes you have the car garage right next door, but be prepared to shell out 15-20 bucks, for parking alone. Next, the "lines" (and I'm not talking about the good ones) line to enter the park, line to get a beer, line to get some popcorn, line to use the bathroom, lines etc. I completely understand that this is part of the experience and that patience is a virtue, but please, if I am in line, and willing to spend my money on a 12 oz $12 dollar, draft beer (in which I was overcharged) will you at least have some fans, coolers, misters, even some hard cardboard souvenir hand held fans, to keep from fainting while I wait for my overpriced (& overcharged) beer. Just to reiterate, you must be vigilant on what is being charged on you debit card. They were charging 1 dollar over what the price menu said, and nobody noticed, except for me. The staff was pretty uptight and rude, when I took a seat in the "bullpen sitting area" were I was quickly ushered off, despite, that I was panting, and catching my breath, also despite from being completely & utterly empty in that section. After getting our snacks, drinks, and locating our seats, I suppose all that previous hassle was quickly forgotten. Now the main focal point was the team out on the field, (The Chihuahuas ) as we watched them tie the score, once again. It was an exciting and exhilarating game, until the bottom of the 8th, where the visiting team scored a couple of runs, then quickly, took over the momentum. The final score, Las Vegas 12-El Paso 7. Even though it was a loss, I had fun, and would more than likely do it all over again. Maybe! There is a rematch on Sat. 06/08/24, let go Wawas....
Read moreSouthwest University Park is a nice stadium and has the potential to offer a great fan experience, but my visits left me feeling disappointed more than impressed.
When I went for a Chihuahuas minor league baseball game, I was excited because the social media team advertised Harry Potter mugs. Unfortunately, this turned out to be misleading. I went to the team store as directed, only to be told that the promotion was actually at a separate booth. When I checked the promotional booth, it wasn’t even open. To make matters worse, the team’s Instagram account responded in a way that felt dismissive, almost like they were gaslighting fans by insisting I went to the wrong place. It left a sour taste, especially since I made the effort to track down something that should have been straightforward.
Later, I attended a Locomotive FC soccer match, and again I had issues with the shopping experience. I tried to purchase a jersey, but the salesperson incorrectly told me that “W” sizing stood for unisex. Anyone familiar with apparel knows “W” means women’s sizing, and sure enough, the 3XL M I bought did not fit me at all, despite being a fit 220 lb, 6-foot male. To fix the problem, I was informed to walk across the entire stadium to exchange it for another size. Not only was this inconvenient, but it showed a lack of product knowledge and customer care.
The stadium itself is clean, modern, and the atmosphere for games can be exciting, which is why I didn’t rate this lower. But the customer service, misleading promotions, and lack of staff training take away from what could otherwise be a great experience. For now, I’d say it’s worth visiting for the games, but go in with tempered expectations regarding merchandise...
Read moreI usually love attending the games. This year alone I've gone at least 8 times. I rated my experience a 5 star before. However, This last time I went was for a ceremony & there was food served in the Santa Fe Pavilion with the game to follow. Our job provided us with our first two tickets free & I purchased 2 extra because I wanted my family, that were visiting from Colorado, to experience it. It was a very poor experience. We had to RSVP way ahead of time so I thought they'd be more prepared. First of all there wasn't enough tables & chairs for even just half the people there on both floors. The sun was beating down on the regular seats & even with that not many of those seats were available either. The ice provided for drinks were served out of cracked plastic buckets & the chips were mostly crumbs with about 2 or 3 whole chips. Coleslaw was also a side but it was warm..?.. I honestly couldn't believe it. I was looking forward to this for months because I had not been in this pavilion yet but honestly, it just fell short. Most of the people left an hour into the game. I really hope there's...
