New Star Chinese & Hibachi Restaurant — Restaurant in Elizabeth City

Rude staff, they give Chinese people a really bad name. They talk down to every customer that came in, we ate there so we heard people ask questions, the girl had this flat monotone voice, she didn't ask his question, said "one size" he asked three different ways "Is this the very small white noodle?" She just kept saying "one size" over n over, in this rude horrible tone, over n over. They have a sign saying Ask for a free calendar. We asked when ordered n paid, I asked, "will we get the calendar when we get our food?" She just nodded yes. The food came, there wasn't the calendar, so I waited in line, asked if I could get the pink calendar with bunny on it, she huffed, grabbed a calendar n put it thru the tiny slot. Now the food. Rice is not fried, it steamed rice that they put yellow coloring in the water, n some pork tossed in it, it had no flavor at all, twisted stail. I got Broccoli beef, the sauce was weard, had a funny after twist, the Broccoli was perfect n oven hot, funny thing the beef was on the luck warm side, but it was tender, the sauce ruined it all. I picked out the Broccoli n ate by it self. My husband got the sesame chicken, same yucky rice, good sauce, but chewy chicken. We both got egg rolls, they were big, but really chewy, didn't like the twist either. I dont think this store cares about bad reviews, it did have a good amount of people going thru there, that's what made me want to go there. Me and my husband ordered food from here tonight, took it home and the gtso chicken was really hard, old. The crab rangoon was soggy and old. But worse of all was the egg roll. I went to hire into it and it tasted putrid. I spit it out and called the restaurant and first the lady argued with me telling me that out of all the people that came there I was the only one who complained and then said that I was wrong and then she laughed at me when I was speaking to her so I asked for the manager and she laughed and told me she did not know who the manager was or their name. She said that no one who was working there that night knew who the manager or owner was and she got an attitude when I asked her what her name was. Absolutely horrid customer service. Will never eat...

Great local Chinese restaurant, unique in that I think it’s the only one that offers hibachi plates/dishes (aside from the local Japanese places). Prices are reasonable and similar to other places in town. Of course, the most important thing is…the foods are good and you get a good quantity with the orders (ie you won’t go hungry). I like their vegetables most…because they’re not cooked to mush and you can tell they are fresh and slightly al dente.
