I visited the restaurant on 02/19/2018. It was my first time to this location.
My initial contact with the staff was pretty good. I had to wait, the staffs were friendly. As I was waiting, I asked a gentleman at the cashier that I could not connect to the Wi-Fi. He talked to a lady. The lady came up to me and said that the Wi-Fi has just been going in and out for the past two weeks or so. I didn't understand because the signal on my phone was consistently strong. But what can I say? So, okay! But I thought it was weird. If you were experiencing this issue and aware of it for the past two weeks? Why didn't you take care of it? Then, shortly after, another gentleman who over heard the conversation approached me and said that his phone could connect to the Wi-Fi, just fine. Apparently it was my phone that needed more time to connect to the Wi-Fi. Not only did he check on me complaint/concern, he further stated, "If there was problem with the Wi-Fi, I would have to call IT to fix it because that's not something that we can do here." Yes, I understand that. I found that response appropriate and professional. And I wish that the employees had name tags so I could property acknowledge some of the employees.
I finally got seated and put in my order. The waitress served me with my plate and the ginger. The plate was dusty and the ginger was dried as if it had been sitting out there for a while. When my tempura came out, it was not warm enough. I asked them to heat it up again for me. This time it was warm enough, but the tempura itself was not made right. Dang, these people at the kitchen need to learn how to fry their tempuras!
The restaurant interior was okay, I thought that the price was overpriced, especially considering the portion that was served, the service was a mix of good and bad. Some employees were good and some weren't really professional. I was really impressed by the guy who was cleaning up the table next to me. He wasn't just wiping the tables. He made sure that there were no stains left. After he wiped the tables, he was inspecting...
Read moreA Sacramento area legend in sushi. Go for the ambiance, the excellently crafted rolls and the highest quality fish available around. Plenty of TVs in the bar area which is a great place to watch a game or grab a good brew and a small plate. The rest of the building is outfitted with great tables and booths for both tastes. Things can sometimes be loud in the bar area especially during a big game or if a large group is celebrating but it's never been enough of an issue to detract from my experience. The decor inside is fantastic with a faux bamboo grove theme. Another thing worth noting is the typically well curated cocktail menu with a few standard options and some pleasant suprises as well. This is one of the few sushi places I will go to and order "chef's choice" sampler type menu items and NEVER go home disappointed. Everything from the shellfish to the tuna is all expertly prepared and presented beautifully. The tempura and gyoza not only fit the bill as great appetizers but have the small details to make them above expectations. If you're feeling adventurous try the puff daddy! As far as rolls go, follow your tastes or try the Japanese Mafia roll (a signature dish of Mikuni) Even the ramen, teriyaki and other non-sushi or non-fish dishes are fantastic and not just kid's menu stuff. My go to main dish is always the Chef's Choice Sashimi platter and they are happy to modify it to your tastes and keep away from certain fish if you prefer. The staff has always been attentive and polite, answering all my dumb questions about sushi with a smile and offering great solutions for an indecisive mind. If you haven't been yet, give it a try and suprise yourself with this...
Read more2023.07.20 Went here for a birthday occasion and had a delicious meal. The freaky edamame was a good starter also pepperf and tuna I believe is a good second and the third one was a Tommy roll which was absolutely delicious. One of the things that make the Tommy roll special is that it's made with soy paper and they sort of cut the roll and then put little spicy tuna in the middle on top. I'll dig around for pictures of the Tommy roll a little bit later.
[Original review] Well it's a good time to go visit mikuni's Japanese restaurant and sushi bar. Had a great lunch today that started off with the freaky edamame.
Also try the barbecue tuna with both sauces the yellow and the orange. The Orange is a little more spicy but it's very tasty.
If you're going to have the sea steak it's good with a little bit of extra garlic sprinkled on top.
I prefer the sea steak with the white tuna only.
as far as rolls go the train wreck is one of the absolute best also the Marilyn Monroe is a delicious roll although it's not as much to eat as the train wreck.
The train wreck is a little large if you've tried a few other rolls.
And if you really want to try something tasty try getting the spicy scallop hand roll in soy paper with the scallops slightly fried. Pour a little ponsu mixed with wasabi on top and you'll have a nice end to...
