This was my first experience here.
It was 930p and I was trying to place my order for pick from their site and it wouldn't complete due to the time. I called in the order (Udipi Uthappam) now about 20 min before closing. I repeated what I wanted at least three times. I even read the full description to him off their menu on their site. He expressed that I needed to get there before they close at 10, I assured him I'm only 4 min away. I get there and he asks for my card without telling me the price. He gives me my card back without receipt. I let it go for the moment because he was talking with another customer who came in after me that had already gotten an uber eats order with something missing. I eventually asked for my receipt. It was $2 higher and was a different dish than what I ordered. I asked why he put that in and not what I ordered. He said because it's too late for the dish that I ordered. I have family members born and raised in India and have watched this and many other meals made from scratch, so I know what it consists of and the preparation of it. The only way it would be too late is if they didn't have the lentil dough already made as ingredients need to soak at least 4 hours before blending. If this was the case then he should've told me that on the phone. I would've ordered something else. The difference in the dishes were that I ordered onion only and he entered in vegetable (Veg Uthappam). I would think the vegetable would take longer as they are using multiple mixed veggies rather than just onion. I let it go because I'm not opposed to the veggies as long as the onion was still in there. I also didn't say anything about the higher cost because the veggie one costs more. Even though it wasn't right for him to do that when that's not what I ordered. Also, per their menu description, it was supposed to be lentil cakes and it appeared they just used a regular flour dough; definitely no lentil. Maybe they used a rice dough they already had made and that's why he said it was too late to make what I ordered over the phone. I wanted them because they were lentil and onion. I try to stay away from regular flour, rice and pasta. I was very disappointed. I ate it anyway because I didn't want to go through the hassel of getting a refund and finding something healthy somewhere else so late at night. The uthappam was bland in taste. I will not order it again unless they make it as described and as I ordered it. The chutneys were very good; them alone would bring me back. The sambar was decent; I've had better from a chain type of place (Chopathi), but I would eat it again. They should consider changing the container they put it in as they serve the sambar so hot that it burns you and it's only in a thin plastic container.
I was disappointed in my overall experience here and I feel cheated; however, I will give them another chance earlier in the day, not so close to closing time, to see what happens and I will ask questions before placing and paying for my order. Next time, if these same issues occur, I will not accept any overcharges or something that I didn't order and I would choose to not eat from there anymore. Hopefully, they won't...
Read moreI wish there was a negative point system in reviews. Being a weekend i called at 7:15 pm on saturday to place an order. Went to the restaurant at 7:50 the guy at the front told me they are preparing it. Came out and went back in at 8:15 pm again. At this point he went in and said they are still preparing. Waited until 8:45 there and by now 2 other customers were complaining about delay in their order. One guy had 1 chicken biryani and he waited 1 hr 15 mins for it. That's the pathetic situation of their service. Meanwhile few people just walked in and since they are their regular customers i could hear the them mentioning "i would have brought the order to your home why did you come to the restaurant". So at 8:45 i asked again and this time he still said we are preparing. My order was only Spinach Pakora, Veg manchuria and cut mirchi. Not sure why they needed 90 mins to still not deliver my order. Even if they would have started at 7:50 it would have finished by 8:30 max. Lost patience and I yelled and walked out from there.
I know my fellow Indians could care less about this review because the restaurant has established customer base by now and bigger problem with Indian restaurants in Catonsville is .. less restaurants and too much of crowd.. they could care less about loosing 1-2 disgruntled customers like me .. just wish more restaurants open in this vicinity and these guys are shown their place because of their attitude and...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst customer service you will ever receive at a restaurant of any kind. Let’s start by saying no one should have to jump through hoops or beg for good customer service, and this restaurant is the place that will make you do so. My first visit to this restaurant was on March 21st, 2023. I walked in as I was in the area, and ordered a the chicken tikka and garlic naan in person, I received the tikka kabob instead and called back shortly to see if this can be corrected as this is not the item I ordered. The employee working refused to provide with me any solution, additionally refused to provide her name or any contact information for a manager. Drove over 25 minutes to come in to the store and call the owner from a number of the menu. The owner spoke with the employee and rectified this, pleased with his customer service as an owner I decided to come back on March 31st, 2023. The same employee Chandana as well as another employee Nimmie. I placed an order over the phone and was told 25 minutes, came into the restaurant 30 minutes later to just be repeatedly told by both it will take longer “just 5-10 minutes” “some more time ma’am” and finally after about an hour I received my order which was butter chicken and 1 garlic naan. My order was cold to the touch when I received it. Disappointed I left and will...
