I seriously do not know what is up with this town! Everywhere I go, I get weird looks, and it only happens in this general area! The moment I walked in, the cashier and the table in front of her immediately stopped talking and looked at me awkwardly.
The whole time I was there, they kept sneaking glances and acting like my mere presence offended them. The cashier was the main perpetrator of this. The only reason this shop is getting 2 stars is because my grandma loves the ice cream (although she said the "strawberry ice cream" they gave me didnt taste like strawberries at all, just vanilla). But thankfully, she didn't have to deal with this nonsense. Go up a few blocks to either Sweet Circle or Kilwin's. CarmieCakes is especially good at customer service. They actually value their customers and don't act like a centipede walked in and paid for a scoop of ice cream. And when the centipede didn't leave a tip at the end, things also got awkward, but it's possible this was all in my head. Regardless, all I wanted was to de-stress, and this place made...
Read moreAs an owner of an ice cream shop myself (in Iowa) I'm pretty picky when it comes to the frozen treat. Kimmer's is my go-to ice cream spot in Elmhurst as they always have a great selection of high-quality flavors. I want to give a special shoutout to an employee, Amelia, who far exceeded my expectations. She was working hard from the moment I walked in to the moment I left with my cone (in fact, she was handling most of the customers herself). After using the cash register for the customers in front of me, she politely told me she needed to wash her hands before making me a cone (this is HUGE - as it's a health department requirement, that sadly, most teenagers choose to avoid when possible). In general, she was incredibly polite and helpful. All I can say is if she lived in Iowa, I'd hire her in a second! Kimmer's, you've found a great...
Read moreUpdate: 11/15/23: I did a two scoop with root beer float and parent trap (cookies and cream with peanut butter). Great combination. You get the sweetness from the root beer float and the little bit of saltiness from the peanut butter. It was never too sweet nor too salty. Just the right amount of each.
Located in downtown Elmhurst. A lot of free parking spaces. The employees were very nice. We got pumpkin cheesecake, chocolate peppermint bark, pumpkin, and Aztec hot chocolate. They have a lot more flavors than what they advertise on their website. My favorite was the chocolate peppermint bark. Great seasonal flavor for the holidays. Pumpkin cheesecake was a...
