Denny's — Restaurant in Ely

Where to begin? The hotel Nevada USED to have a charming nostalgic diner ~ decorated with all the wonderful & historic things that, for years, speak true of this remote part of Nevada Cowboy & Mining Country, and its colorful history. Step forward into 2023, post-pandemic, and its new owners, from Las Vegas apparently, have gutted the historic heart and soul out of this historic and iconic Nevada hotel. What you're left with now, is a very morbid excuse for a Denny's restaurant. Indeed, one would find more atmosphere and better food on almost any main street (or ghetto) anywhere else in America. The ambition of the underpaid, and under tipped waitstaff apparently left on the last train northbound, which probably derailed somewhere near McGill. I attempted to order food here for over an hour without success. When someone finally did come out to greet me I was so disgusted I abruptly left. May I also mention here, that if you call this Denny's, you'll be funneled into some horrific sweatshop styled national call center, where you will struggle to communicate your order to a person who barely understands even second grade remedial English. Good luck on your request ever being legibly communicated to this Denny's, some thousands of miles away from where your call was received. Online orders more than likely receive about the same level of attention, as how most of the wait staff is probably outside enjoying a 420 or cigarette break, at the expense of customers starving inside. That being said, a cigarette break would hardly even be necessary, as the adjacent casino is so horribly filled with smoke, that you are basically served a complimentary side order of lung cancer with every meal. Meals I HAVE had here in the past were served cold and barely recognizable with any other Denny's restaurant to date. The pictures offered online or in the menu, while tantalizing, are such a far cry from what will ultimately be delivered, that you would think that you were being served a meal in a post-apocalyptic world, reminiscent of Bartertown from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. The pierced & tattooed waitstaff dressing their parts accordingly. A chainmael-clad Tina Turner waitress, would be a quality redeeming addition to this establishment! While Ely itself is a wonderful, nostalgic town, more than worthy of your visit & time; you will actually step into nothing short of the "upside down" upon your visit & experience at this Denny's. My advice to you on this would be to "Run Forrest Run", as fast as you can, to ANY other restaurant in town, where you will be promptly greeted, & promptly served a warm delicious meal. Disappointing Experience – Not Family-Friendly, Poor Service, and Low-Quality Food

Unfortunately, our visit here was a complete letdown. First, the environment is unpleasant right from the start, strong smoke fills the air due to the casino connection. Definitely not ideal for children, or for anyone with asthma or sensitivity to smoke. We were ready to leave, but we were exhausted and hoping to relax with a decent meal. That didn’t happen.

From the moment we walked in, the staff seemed disengaged and uninterested. No greeting, no warmth. We were barely acknowledged before being wordlessly led to a table, where menus were dropped and the server walked off without saying a word. They weren't busy. 2 tables were served and 3 waitresses were running around the floor, but I'm not entirely sure what they were doing because one table near us, was waiting for refills and then later boxes and later the check.

When our waitress arrived, her attitude felt cold and irritated. She never offered refills, and our meals came out at very different times. I ordered a Cobb salad, but what I received looked like a basic house salad, limp lettuce, a few tomatoes, cheese, and croutons. After mentioning it, they brought out a small plate with browning avocado slices, one hard-boiled egg, and some bacon bits. Even after adding that, the salad was still the size and quality of a basic side salad, definitely not worth the price.

To make matters worse, my iced tea had visible white residue stuck to the inside of the glass. I didn’t notice until I was nearly finished, and by then I’d lost all confidence in the cleanliness of the place. I chose not to complain further, I didn’t feel safe doing so based on how things were already going.

My kids were excited for their food, but neither finished their meals, which is very unlike them. When your kids, who usually eat everything, push the food aside, you know something’s off.

We paid over $70 for a meal we barely touched, walked outside into the shared parking lot... and passed someone openly smoking meth on the sidewalk. That was the final nail.

This is not a safe, welcoming, or quality place for families. The food, service, and atmosphere were all disappointing. There’s nothing worse than being treated poorly, served low-quality food, and still having to pay a hefty bill and leave a tip. We...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Denny's for two consecutive weeks, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From the moment I stepped foot inside the restaurant, I felt welcomed and at ease.

The service was impeccable throughout my entire stay. The staff, Mary and everyone else at Denny's were incredibly friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Whether it was a busy weekend morning or a relaxed weekday evening, they always made sure that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.

Now, let's talk about the food! Denny's menu is diverse and offers a wide range of options, catering to all tastes and cravings. Each dish I tried was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. Whether it was their signature Grand Slam breakfasts to their mouthwatering burgers and comforting dinners, every meal was consistent in quality and taste.

One of the standout features of Denny's is their commitment to using fresh ingredients. Every bite felt like a burst of goodness, and I appreciated the care put into every plate.

Another great aspect is their affordability. The generous portions and reasonable prices made it the perfect place for a delicious yet budget-friendly dining experience. It's rare to find a restaurant that offers such high-quality food at such accessible prices.

The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting and family-friendly. It was a great spot to catch up with friends, enjoy a hearty meal with loved ones, or even have a quiet solo meal. The comfortable seating and warm atmosphere made it feel like a home away from home.

To sum it all up, my two-week dining experience at Denny's was beyond delightful. The exceptional service, scrumptious food, and welcoming ambiance made it an unforgettable journey for my taste buds. I will definitely be coming back for more, and I highly recommend Denny's to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience.
