What a gem! My family recently decided to try to find another local sushi place instead of our regular spot and we are so happy we did. Just walking in was so warm and welcoming. This place is a real jewel box, decorated and styled so as you actually feel you are in Japan. Sandy, our host and server, was so nice and attentive. Chef Sung prepared some of the best sushi we have had in ages. The fish was exceptionally fresh and expertly prepared. We were really hankering for sushi that night so the only cooked things we ordered were shumai and eel but we are already looking forward to going back and trying more things. I don't often know what to make of other reviewers takes as I do not know their palates. But I can tell you that we have had sushi everywhere from North Jersey/NYC, to SF, to Japan and IMHO this place was truly fantastic. The price was also right on point, not so cheap that you question the quality but not so expensive that it is out of reach. This is definitely our new spot! Read moreThis is a very quaint restaurant run by a husband and wife wife team. The food is ALWAYS EXCELLENT! The service is ALWAYS, warm, kind and attentive.
The seafood selections are fresh. We absolutely love the scallion pancakes. My daughter and I go here often and the owner always recognizes my voice when I call and when I go and pick up food for my daughter who’s away at college in NYC. Every single time she asks about my daughter and knows us both by name. She makes an effort no matter how busy they are to chat with us.
The seating is divided by partitions offering a lot of privacy. If you’re going at prime dining time call ahead to get a sense of availability.
When I order for take out to take it across the bridge to Columbia, the food holds up exceedingly well by the time my daughter eats it. Anytime she comes home from college, she makes Matsuyama one of her dining stops and often we order from the bridge to grab food on her way home when she’s coming for just a night or two.
I highly recommend...
Read moreThis restaurant is a hidden little gem in Englewood. The service is amazing from the moment you walk in and the atmosphere is relaxing and calming. They offer complementary tea, radish, and peanuts upon sitting. We ordered the bento box which was 10/10. Orange ginger sauce that comes with the salad is finger licking. All sizes are perfect portions and all very tasty. The teriyaki chicken was crunchy and the sauce was perfect. The gyozas are perfectly fried. The miso soup was very traditional. We also ordered the poke bowl and it was the best I’ve ever had. It tasted fresh and clean unlike others I’ve tried in the past. The attention to detail on the preparation of the food shows with the presentation and taste. I highly recommend coming in/or ordering take out.
Thank you to Tim and the staff at Matsuyama...
