Shrimp and Tails Sea Food — Restaurant in Ennis

Tasty food, nice enough dining - okay all around - nothing stands out. My wife and I went for lunch around noon on a Tuesday. There was one other customer there. My wife had a shrimp Po' boy with coleslaw and red beans and rice (13). I had their red beans and rice, coleslaw, side salad, and french fries (12) with an agua melon (3.5). My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Po' boy - there were two very large shrimp - one for each half of the sandwich. They had been butterflied, but not mashed (more than half an inch thick), and easily covered each half. Good breading. My salad was very high quality mixed greens with a delicious, creamy, unidentified house dressing. Their french fries, though not twice-cooked, were lightly dusted and fried enough to where they gained some stiffness. Their coleslaw was creamy and nice, but had no celery seed, and kind of lacked substance. Their red beans and rice was beans with a little rice sprinkled on top - still not bad. This is the absolute best place we have eaten at in Ennis. They have only been open 3 months. Being our first time here we wanted to try a variety of different items and everything we tried was amazing!! We ordered the crawfish hushpuppies, the combo fried basket which had 1 fish filet, 4 shrimp and 2 sides, the Baja Tacos which comes with 2 sides and 1lb of snow crab legs that includes corn, potatoes, and sausage. The sides that we tried were coleslaw, rice and beans, sweet potato fries, and mixed veggies. The sweet tea is really good, they carry Coke products, beer, and fruit drinks as well. The inside is extremely clean and beautifully decorated. The staff is extremely attentive, if I walked up to the counter to ask a question they stopped what they were doing and took care of me right then. The appetizer came out 4 minutes after placing our order and the food arrived 8 minutes after placing our order. The pricing can’t be beat!!! You get real cooked to order food with fresh ingredients for less than a combo meal at any fast food place. Also, our non fried meals were served on real plates with real silverware. Overpriced Captain D’s. Actually Capt D’s is much better quality for 1/3 the cost and I despise Capt D’s!! If you are craving seafood I would suggest a McD’s filet sandwich over this place. Wife and I got the crawfish hush puppies, overcooked and was not eaten. Wife got the fish meal and I got the combo with fish/shrimp. Fish was almost the quality of Gordon’s frozen filets out of a bag in the frozen section of Walmart.
