I need to start off by saying that our server was great and gets 5 stars! The rest of the experience? Not so great. We only had one opportunity to have brunch with our nieces before flying out, so I did my best to find a place with great reviews and plenty of food options. I didn’t want to waste our brunch outing on a bad restaurant, but unfortunately, our visit was disappointing.
To begin with, the wait time. I understand there may be longer wait times when a place is really good, but this was not it for us. We ordered 4 meals and only 1 was decent. I cannot justify the 30+ minute wait.
The food. Listen, I’m Mexican and I’ve eaten at a lot of places. I know not to expect authentic Mexican flavor in American restaurants. Heck, even in Mexican restaurants in the US, I know not to have high expectations. The issue here is that they had quite a few Mexican plates, which led me to believe that they would at least be decent, even if not authentic. The fact that they offered flour or corn tortillas, led me to believe that they at least had a good idea about what they were doing. I ordered the eggs and chorizo, my wife ordered the machaca, one niece ordered the French toast, and the other niece ordered the breakfast sandwich. The “Mexican” dishes were a disappointment. Again, I didn’t have high expectations, but it had to be among our least favorite Mexican plates ordered at a restaurant. The rice did not have the right flavor, the beans almost tasted liked canned refried beans, and the chorizo and eggs along with the machaca was flavorless. We needed to add salt and it still lacked the right flavor. The corn tortillas did not help either. They were not handmade, and they were not even heated up properly prior to serving. They were room temperature and breaking apart. Literally felt like they were taken out of their package and popped in the microwave for a few seconds. Anyone that has the least bit of knowledge about Mexican cuisine should know that this is not how you serve tortillas. My niece’s breakfast sandwich was average. She’s 12. I asked her to rate her sandwich from 1 - 5 and she said 3. She mentioned it was ok but not any different from any other place and she has had better. I tasted it and agreed with her. My other niece had the French toast. I was surprised, it was actually pretty good. It had good flavor and good texture.
Lastly, the coffee. I ordered a vanilla oat milk latte. It cost more than a local specialty coffee shop, and not nearly as good. Don’t get me wrong, it was good compared to other restaurants, but not for the price. If you’re charging that much for a latte, I’d expect them to know how to pour a proper shot and froth the milk correctly. The orange juice was okay. Definitely better than most places, but not the best I’ve had. The seasonal drink they had, meh, it looked pretty and all but the flavor was not there.
I’m not really sure what happened here. I don’t know if we just messed up by ordering Mexican dishes at an American restaurant. Perhaps it was just a bad day for the kitchen. Whatever the case was, it was disappointing and I would not recommend this place. It was not worth it at all, and the only thing that made it enjoyable was our server and the company of our nieces. I don’t usually write bad reviews, but I feel strongly...
Read moreFirstly let me say they were pretty busy.
They sat me at the bar because I was solo.
The GM was working the bar. She was attentive and fast, but tried 3 times to push alcohol on me. I was literally in my work uniform.
Super inappropriate after the first time, not to mention it was 11am.
Food was trash. Soggy benedict, the sopes were hard, not at all fresh, and then wet from all the extra liquid- terrible combo. Shows the chefs just aren’t that good at what they do.
Waitresses were talking up a storm with each other at the bar even though the place was busy- sadly you get that kind of thing a lot with female “leadership.”
The fruit was off, not fresh at all. That’s common with breakfast places, but Broken Yolk is supposed to be better.
The Female GM abruptly took off, didn’t say anything. An older female waitress then took over behind the bar.
I’m half deaf from construction work.
She kept chatting me up about the app and asking for a good Yelp review. It was lame. She was literally halfway down the bar barely facing me trying to make that pitch- couldn’t even hear her, and if she’d looked over she wouldn’t have realized that. It was pretty disrespectful.
I pulled out my card to pay right away and she saw it, but left it there for about 5 minutes with the check, while she proceeded to make coffee drinks for an entire table. That wasn’t a good move.
Couldn’t wait to get out of there. Not the worst $25 I’ve ever spent, very close. I’ve had better visits to McDonalds,
They are charging boutique prices for poor service and low quality food- felt like I was eating at the airport or something.
The Broken Yolk on the East side of town- totally different story. Still over-priced but they...
Read moreVery excited to try this restaurant for breakfast. No line when we went in- no waiting. Got seated and loved the decor and atmosphere. Menu and prices were average. Waited almost 10 minutes for our server to arrive at our table. We did not dine at regular breakfast or lunch times and there were a few empty tables. Server was kind enough the entire time. Drinks also took a bit longer to be served. Food arrived in a good time. The waffle sandwich needed more seasoning and flavor. The brunch size french toast was perfect. Side of bacon needed a bit more frying. And I am not sure when restaurants started skimping on the amount/ or how much should be included as a side order of something. Slightly disappointed. Check was placed at table- again on average for 2 people with a beverage is around $50 here in Henderson. When she came to take payment I noticed that the tip was automatically entered because I noticed how high the bill seemed. I understand completely that tips are important. But as the customer it is my responsibility to determine how fair a tip should be. Considering we almost walked out waiting for our order to be taken- we were eyeing the McDonald's right across from us in the parking lot- please do not assume your tip should be higher. I also don't as a customer appreciate that servers sometimes not all the time, but sometimes hold the machine and watch while you enter the tip. It's an all around experience and it shouldn't be judged while it's being made. It was a good restaurant but those kind of things as one off as they can be don't always leave...
