Our recent Friday evening visit to Texas Roadhouse exemplified why this restaurant stands above the rest. The atmosphere was particularly joyful, and while the food is consistently excellent, it somehow tasted even better than usual.
The true highlight was our server, Skyla - a rare gem who elevated service to an art form. In my years of regular dining out, I've only experienced this level of attentiveness at fine dining establishments in places like Carlsbad, CA. Despite managing a full section, she displayed exceptional awareness and proactive service. A perfect example: after bringing my requested cup of hot water, she returned unprompted with a fresh cup, noting "Here is another cup of hot water because the one you have is probably not as warm as you like by now." This level of thoughtful, anticipatory service is truly extraordinary.
Even during peak dining hours (we arrived at 5:30 PM to a packed house), the restaurant's efficiency impressed us. Our quoted 15-20 minute wait turned into less than 10 minutes. The hostess engaged us in pleasant conversation while escorting us to our table, bringing their signature fresh-baked rolls and cinnamon butter right with her.
The food maintained its high standards - the BBQ ribs fall-off-the-bone tender, the Country Fried Chicken perfectly crispy outside and juicy inside. The made-from-scratch sides complement the mains beautifully, with fresh crisp salads, perfectly cooked green beans, and creamy mashed potatoes.
The entire staff's commitment to customer satisfaction is evident in every interaction. During a previous visit, when we had questions about gift certificate terms, both server and manager promptly addressed our concerns and honored our understanding of the offer, even sharing their plans for clearer messaging. Their handling of the situation gave us such confidence that we purchased $200 worth of gift certificates.
As regular monthly diners who often visit before our Costco shopping trips, we can attest to the remarkable consistency of Texas Roadhouse. But this visit stood out as something special - a perfect example of how exceptional service can elevate a dining experience from great to unforgettable. Thank you, Texas Roadhouse, for maintaining such high standards, and a special thank you to Skyla for an outstanding...
Read moreTexas Roadhouse claims, on their website, that legendary means hand-cut steaks. I can tell you that my experience was anything but legendary. I ordered the Ft. Worth 12 oz. ribeye steak cooked medium rare.
When the steak was served it looked like a wedge that I would use to split logs. It was 1-inch thick on one end and 1/4-inch thick on the other end.
I have cooked a lot of steaks in my time and I can tell that the best chef or grill master in the world could not properly prepare a steak cut like this. The steak was so rare on the thick side and so overcooked on the other end that it was tough as leather.
What has happened to quality assurance or quality control at Texas Roadhouse? The person responsible for carving steaks should never let this piece of meat out of the carving area. This steak should have been cut up into steak bites listed on the kids menu. Secondly, the person plating the steak should have caught this. Lastly, the waitress should have caught it as they depend on tips and they are the last line of defense to make for an enjoyable experience for their guests.
Full disclosure, the waitress did get the steak replaced but it took forever. My wife and kids had finished their meals long before my steak came out. Do you know how uncomfortable it feels when you have young children that are done eating and ready to go? Very difficult to enjoy the meal that I was really looking forward to. I was told the manager would come by our table. I never saw a manager and if I did, he or she failed to tell me they were a manager and they definitely didn’t apologize for the terrible experience or ask if there was anything they could do to make up for the terrible mistake.
Since their prices have increased so much, the quality has gone down and service is far less than what it used to be, I can honestly say that I will never visit another Texas Roadhouse. It is a shame what has happened to this business since the founder passed away. This used to be a place that my family and I could rely on to get a decent steak and sides for a good value. The steaks were always cut and cooked perfectly. The value just isn’t there. We have a lot of choices for dining in Las Vegas. It's tough to see how a restaurant can survive in this town if they don’t bring their “A” game...
Read moreUpdate: We still enjoy Texas Roadhouse, but tonight it was way too loud - we had to shout our order at the server, and if he asked us a question we could not hear him. We had friends who tried this restaurant and won't return because it is so loud. PLEASE turn down the music so people are not shouting.
Update: We decided to give Texas Roadhouse another try, and it was a very good experience, side dishes came out perfect (mushrooms, chili and mixed vegetables) both of our steaks were cooked perfect, great service, so I'm happy we gave them another shot - I guess everyone has an "off" day.
We were happy to see Texas Roadhouse open, we've dined at other locations in the past. We've dined at this location approximately once a week, and it has been a positive experience until tonight. Last week I was able to order sauteed mushrooms as a side dish (counted as one of the two sides), tonight I tried to do the same and was told I could not - that it would be additional cost and I would have to order 2 additional sides, so I said never mind (I love mushrooms, but more importantly counting calories and they're lower in calories than other sides). Instead I ordered a cup of chili, fresh vegetables and a sirloin. The cup of chili had large chunks of burnt ground beef - so burnt it was crunchy, I've had the chili before but never like this. We also sat for quite a while and did not see our server, so no refill of our drinks. Then came our meal, my side of vegetables was a joke - not even full (2 pieces of broccoli and a few sliced carrots - not the norm again), but worst of all were the steaks! We both ordered medium rare, which we were told warm red centers, both our steaks were gray in the center (well done) but what made it even worse the steaks were like mush, they'd been either tenderized or marinated way too much. We never feel comfortable sending our food back, we usually just don't return if we have a bad experience. We love consistency in our dining experience, sadly that's difficult to find. Texas Roadhouse is now on the list of inconsistent restaurants and I doubt we'll be returning on a...
