I really wanted to like this place. Sincerely, I did. But unfortunately, this visit was a two-fer - my first and my last visit.
My birthday was the previous week and many of my friends and I decided to try somewhere new after our previous horrible experience at the steak house across town. I did some research and made the decision to try The Craft Bar and Grill.
We called them up Friday afternoon and gave them advance notice that we would be expecting a group of between 15-20 people for the next day, Saturday, at 6 pm. They said great, we were down for 20 near the patio.
Saturday rolls around and we arrive at the restaurant. The first thing the hostess tells us is that whoever took the call forgot to write down our reservation and they have nowhere to seat us. At best they could seat us piece meal around as tables came open.
Needless to say, I was not happy. But things happen and I still held out hope that the celebration could be salvaged. About 15 minutes later the hostess comes back and says that they were able to move around a few tables and would be able to sit about 14 of us relatively close together. I said that was fine and we continued to wait. About 10 more minutes pass and she approaches us and offers to let us sit on the patio. I am skeptical, so she offers to show it to me.
It's not too awfully cold out (maybe low 60s) and it has a roof so I agree. The party that has made it so far (14 of us) moves out to the patio.
The hostess tells us that our waitress will be out shortly to take our drink orders. Before she can do that, someone I can only assume is the manager starts coming around to each of our tables. I was hoping it would be to apologize for losing the reservation, but it turns out it is so that he can inform us that their delivery truck did not arrive today and they were out of about ⅓ of the items on the menu.
In the meantime, 2 more of our party show up.
The appetizers and drinks are ordered and the orders put in. As far as I know, the appetizers arrived without incident. The first round of drinks came in pretty well, too. Then it all begins to unravel.
One member of the group ordered his second drink 3 times before it came, refills were practically non-existent. We were not brought any napkins. And then we began to order our entrees. We had 4 people order the ribeye along with everything else that was put in. Of the 14 people that ordered, 4 did not receive their meals before the checks were brought out. The food arrived and there was no silverware to be found. And remember the 4 steaks that I mentioned earlier? They only had 2. So the other two had to order something else AFTER everyone else had finished eating.
It was an utter disaster from start to finish.
I appreciate the effort that was put forth by our waitress, but there was waaay too much for one person to handle with just our group, not to mention trying to handle other tables inside as well.
As for my steak, it was cooked just right, but had little to no flavor to it. It would show occasional flashes of greatness with bursts of flavor, bit they we're few and far between. It came with new potatoes that had the consistency of rubber. I ate half of one of them. I was more than happy to give my mixed vegetables to one of the youngsters that was there.
Overall, I ended up apologizing to my friends and co-workers for the lousy evening. I was extremely disappointed and have vowed to hold the next get together at my house and to grill out on my own.
Edit: How about a compromise, then. I am a firm believer in second chances and will give The Craft the 6 months period to work out the growing pains, as it were. At that point I will revisit this review and revise as...
Read moreAs someone who goes Kosher (and is allergic to pork), almost everything on this menu is inedible to me. I was recommended by an employee so I decided to soldier through and ordered the burger without the bacon.
The server asked me if I wanted any extra ketchup or mayo and I said I'd take what came on it. If I'm going to write a review of their food, I'm going to try it as the chef intended so I get the authentic experience.
In retrospect, this was the worst decision. There was absolutely no sauce. The menu claims it is "drenched" in a sauce, but what I got was a patty cooked to order with an egg (also cooked to order)on top of it all in a bun. There was absolutely nothing in the way of sauce on this burger.
The fries that came with it were mildly seasoned and then absolutely covered in salt. It is not an exaggeration to say that I've had mouthfuls of ocean water that weren't that salty. I could faintly taste some flavor through the barrage of salt, and that's why I said "mildly seasoned" earlier.
There is also a stage where I am told live bands can play, if that's your thing. Personally, having had to put up with anyone who applies for it being able to go up and play whatever they call music all through college, Im not eager for a repeat of that. If I want to listen to music while I eat, I'll put in headphones and play the things I like.
Their bathrooms were at least clean when I went to wash my hands so they don't get an immediate failing grade.
Price: 4/10 overpriced for the quality of food I got. at somewhere in the 'teens for just the food, plus a drink, I would not go back. Menu Variety: 4/10 the menu was a single sheet of paper, and not even that was filled, and as I said, I ahd to modify my meal just to be able to eat it. Friendliness of the staff: 9/10, nothing to complain about here, my server was great Bathrooms: 9/10. A bit dimly lit when I went there, but clean and in working order, which is what I ask of a bathroom Live Music: ?/10. Not my cup of tea, but there wasn't one there during my meal so I cannot judge the quality of the bands they let in to perform. Perhaps they're all excellent, perhaps they ruin the meal. I cannot say.
Overall score: 5/10 I wouldn't recommend going here to a friend, but if someone else was buying I would go with just...
Read moreAte here Monday 2/24 for my birthday dinner and had an amazing experience! Great oysters, great entrees, great service, and great NA choices.
Saw on FB about dollar oyster night and my husband and I were so excited to go back. We get there, parking lot is full, it's a great sign. We're excited. We get in and wait about 10 mins to get sat, no big deal it's busy inside. We get seated, and out server from Monday who is bartending recognizes us and says hello, which goes back to that great service. Our server comes over, grabs our drink order, and says hello to table behind us (who seemingly sat themselves) and informs them that they are out of oysters. I relay that to my husband, and we decided just to double check with our server. She did not come back to the table for at least half an hour. Our drinks sat at the bar for a while, and then were delivered by who I assume is the manager/owner. He was friendly, and running all around to help the staff, which I also thought was great! While we're waiting, we watch at least 4 tables (two of whom sat after us) get delivered oysters. When our server finally comes back she explains that "they may be out, she'll have to check" and another server explained to us that there were so many orders ahead of us that we likely could not order. Now, running out I completely understand. Our server disappearing for half an hour while we were seated leaving us unable to order I do not understand. Even the table behind us who sat after us, and initially got told that there were no oysters were able to get they oysters they ordered. And again, running out of oysters on dollar oyster night IS understandable but to have no chance to order and watch everyone else get served is really quite something. At this point we decided to just pay for our drinks and leave, only to see the manager sitting down at the bar with.....a plate of oysters.........
Again, had a great experience on Monday but tonight was like whiplash. Hopefully it was just a fluke as we really enjoyed our first experience but this one was really, really disappointing. Almost an hour for one round of drinks and...
