My grandpa had a heart attack and all he said he wanted was to go to The Original Pancake House. He ended up having to have surgery and was unable to leave the hospital. I live in Arizona so I couldn't be there and help him. I got the courage to call The Original Pancake House and asked if there was any way to deliver food to him at the hospital. He attends a bible study there every Monday morning and has been dining there for decades. The lady who answered knew my grandpa and actually works at the hospital where he was staying. I, of course, did not know what he normally orders but I was hoping that they could figure that out and then I would have it delivered somehow. It only took a minute to find the waitress who usually serves him to discover that he gets their ham and cheese omelet with a pancake. However, told me there was no way to deliver food to him. A few months ago, things fell through with the delivery systems they were using and there is no way unless someone picked it up. I was bummed but thanked them for their time. About ten minutes later I get a call from an unknown number. The waitress who serves him called on her cell phone and told me how the lady who first answered the phone can hand deliver his favorite meal to him as she goes to work! I teared up as they offered kind words and the excitement to take it to him. I asked how much I owed them and if I can pay over the phone and they said the they were going to cover it and were happy to do it. This made me cry more as there are such great people out there! I may not be able to be there to help, but by the grace of God and these people, I know my grandpa is taken care of and had the best meal! I cannot thank The Original Pancake House for the smile they put on his face! The best part yet, they humbly told him it was from me. They took no credit for any of it. Not only do they have the best breakfast I have ever had, they have the biggest hearts and genuinely care. The Original Pancake House in Eugene, Oregon makes the world a...
Read moreThis restaurant was very busy at the time because all of the graduations, college move outs and being in the middle of all of the events. We waited 30 minutes to be seated. Once we were seated we were greeted with one of the waitresses telling us the kitchen was 30-40 minutes backed up, we understood because it was very busy. After 10 minutes maybe longer of waiting for something to put drink orders in, our waitress finally came, Mariella G. When one of my family members asked for an omelette they were let know that the kitchen was limiting the menu to specialized scrambled eggs. After some time we were rudely and unprofessionally told the kitchen was out of butter for our pancakes “so no butter for your pancakes” then just walked away. She never asked our table if we wanted refills of coffee, we had to go to the nearby station and pour it ourselves. When she refilled a soda she put it at the end of the table instead of handing it directly to me when I had my hand out. When asked for napkins, hot sauce, an extra plate, some ketchup, she tried walking away after hearing the second item. Then when she returned we had to ask again for the items she missed because she didn’t bring them. The next table over had a gentleman ask for butter for his pancakes and she replied “I told you already we didn’t have butter” and which she was notified he wasn’t at the table when she came around with that news. She never checked on us after we placed our order, or got our meal. The gentleman cleaning table was the only one that checked on us. Do I recommend this place? No, food isn’t that good and neither is the staff that have to interact with the public. We understand being busy but having a staff member with a terrible attitude is not how you want to...
Read moreMy husband and I had just started on day 4 of a 3,000 mile Harley adventure, he on his and me on mine. I had just been recently diagnosed with celiac disease and am unable to enjoy the comforts of pancakes and other gluten-laden foods I grew up loving so after spending an 8 hour day (number 3 of 14 on our trip) being drenched by Mother Nature, I was pretty cynical this trip was going to be a good one at all...until we came into this awesome place!
Our server was cheerful, upbeat and when I mentioned I was sad I wouldn't be enjoying any of the pancakes, she quickly jumped in and told me "there are 'gluten-free' pancakes here that will knock your socks off". I nearly cried and actually held them back when our breakfast arrived with the most incredible ham steak, buttermilk GF pancakes that would have even the most savvy palates unable to tell the difference, fresh juice and coffee.
My husband was astounded with the size of his 3-egg omelet (the first time I've ever seen him NOT finish an entrée), fresh juice but he was floored by the quality of the bacon. We always have thick cut bacon at home but this was crispy on the outside (like deep fried) but nice and tender on the inside. What IS your secret? If we didn't have 4 more states and 2,200 more miles to go, I/we would have come back for breakfast the next morning!
