Hmmmm...mixed feelings about this place. I can tell they mean well and have put in a valiant effort, but so many details were lacking throughout my visit.
First the good. Perfectly located in town, easy walking distance to downtown, Whole Foods and the excellent shopping attached to the hotel. The theme of the hotel and the lobby are very well designed and curated. Kudos to the team involved in this part...Everyone was very nice and tried to be helpful...
ok, here is the issue. This hotel is NOT worth $350 a night + taxes, fees and $20 parking!!! my two night stay came out to $760! I would put this hotel at around $175-$250 a night given that there are no amenities, none of the restaurants or rooftop were open during my visit, etc. It felt like i was being taken advantage of financially....
The hallways are incredibly warm with no circulating air. Thank goodness I had doors to open in my room, otherwise it was very stuffy. AC units in 2022?? this is a new building correct? why is there not central AC and heat throughout the rooms and hotel? or ceiling fans in the rooms?
WAY too much art all over the place. We get it...the theme is art....but this is overkill...Feels very unsophisticated, like a high school project......not well curated.....Take about 50% of the art off the walls and it will feel much more sophisticated, cleaner visually and have a better effect, especially in the hallways of each floor.
the rooms lack any type of luxury whatsoever.....it's a mismatched collection of contrasting colors and woods, with furniture too small for the space and feels more like a hip college dorm than a hotel charging $350 a night or more. They need better water pressure in the bathroom sink and shower and the towels are SO rough...like towels at a gym, not soft like for a hotel..
but the worst part is no one at the front desk seemed to know answers about anything (where are the adults and general manager here?)...I am not exaggerating....were the restaurants open or closed? they don't know...when does the rooftop bar open?...don't know...what part of town should i visit and walk around? don't know.....can i rent bikes? some said yes, some said no. can you help me make a reservation? maybe....I don't blame the staff as it seems they have not been well trained...no concierge here and all the staff were completely unfamiliar with the city and the surrounding area....
PLEASE get new coffee for the rooms....Nespresso or Starbucks would better than what was...
Read moreUpon arriving at the Gordon hotel I was happy. I would write and say all the good things and reasons why but I don’t want to take away from my low rating. You have the option of valet or park on the street. Downtown parking in Eugene is not easy. So I went with the valet. Valet is 18 dollars. That was fine with me. I was moving up from Las Vegas heading to Washington and was in a medium moving truck. Didn’t seem to be a problem for the bell hop. Their parking lot is about a block away. Upon receiving my truck in the morning is when my problem started. I drove that truck 800 miles at that point. Up, over, and through the modac national forest and never had any issues with my stuff in the back. Somehow driving one block he managed to ruin some very expensive furniture. Tipped my dresser over ruining my large leather ottoman by ripping it. Broke two legs on my dresser. Scraped my nightstand. I called them and spoke to their manager. She said she had to speak to the gm and bell hop and would call me back later that day. She did not. I called her the next day and she said she would call me back. She did not. I waited three days and called her back. She said she lost my number but she spoke to the gm and they’re not liable. All I ever wanted was an apology. I wasn’t worried about the money. If they would have offered me a comp or something to show remorse I would have just said don’t worry about it but it’s nice to see the incentive and I would have been fine. Instead I had to call back over and over just to be told it’s not their fault. It WAS THEIR FAULT and I can’t even get them to admit it. F. Y. I. I did check the back before the bell hop took the truck. I will rate this place one star on other sites as well and will forever tell everyone I know not to go there. A simple sorry would have made all...
Read moreI'll start with the stuff I liked and then why I only left three stars.
The good stuff: the lobby is nice and the staff were (mostly) very friendly. The finishes were nice and the artwork was especially enjoyable. It's very close to the Hult Center, just a couple of minutes walk. That last fact was why we chose The Gordon.
Now for the not so great and the bad. There was a dog bed in our room. It was a fairly big dog bed and took up quite a bit of space in a fairly small room. We didn't bring a dog nor did we ask for a dog bed. An unpleasant hassle that we shouldn't have had to deal with. The small room lacked any seating aside from one chair at a desk. The pocket door on the bathroom was almost unusable by my wife due to the design. The last two major issues are related and mind boggling to me that considering that this is a newly built hotel. The noise from the busy street outside is bad. It seems that little effort was made to reduce the sound of traffic making it into the room. The nearby train was also quite loud in our room. Finally and this is my biggest issue; there seems to be zero sound insulation between the 3rd (where we stayed) and the 4th floor. My wife and I were both woken up at 2:30am when the guests staying in the room above us on the 4th floor got to their room and started walking around. It sounded like they were wearing lead boots and weighed 400 pounds. The sound of their footfalls were absolutely ridiculously loud. Thankfully they only walked around for 20 or 30 minutes before they settled down and stopped causing a massive disturbance in our room. I don't think they were stomping, I think it's just the very poorly designed and/or constructed hotel. Finally, our valet was just shy of rude. Stay here if you must, but I'd bring earplugs if...
