I don’t normally post reviews, and I hate to complain. However, I didn’t feel like this hotel lived up to what was promised on the website, or to other people’s positive reviews. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I sort of wished I’d stayed at the Eugene Hilton instead (which I’ve stayed at before with no issues). I would much rather give my money to local small businesses, so I was kinda disappointed in my experience. Not horrible, but...meh. (BTW, I'd probably give it 2.5 stars out of 5, but I don't think Google lets you do half stars.)
To be fair, the hotel had a cool retro vibe and was attractively remodeled. The beds were comfortable, there was a complimentary breakfast available, and the people who worked there were mostly nice and helpful, which was cool, but… some pretty nasty and inconvenient stuff happened.
First of all, we first ended up in a room where it didn’t seem like the sheets had been professionally washed—or possibly even changed at all. A couple hairballs (including, um, personal hairs) were stuck to the sheets, and there was even a mystery stain on one of the blankets (even more GROSSSSSSS). I’m not a neatnik or anything, but it’s pretty nasty to feel like your sheets haven’t been washed since the last guest.
I brought this to the attention of the front desk, and they were nice about it and transferred us to another room, which was really appreciated. However, this new room had some issues as well. Once again, mystery stains--this time, on the towels and walls of the bathroom. NASTY. Not only that, but the deadbolt to the door was falling off, which made me feel kind of unsafe. I didn’t bring these complaints up to the front desk, though, because after complaining about stuff twice (see below), I sort of got tired of complaining, and I wasn’t confident that anything could be done about the issues.
Additionally, even though it said online that the rooms have microwaves and irons / ironing boards, we had neither. We brought this to the attention of the front desk, and they reassured us that we wouldn’t be charged for the missing items, since they were aware they were missing. (Not getting charged for missing items was actually my chief concern, since I didn’t absolutely need an iron or microwave.) However, no replacement items were offered (likely because they weren’t available?).
Anyway, one of the main reasons I’m even bothering to post this is because we actually paid a pretty high rate to stay at Timbers. There was an event going on in town, and so the rooms were more expensive than usual. Relatively high price + a bunch of funky experiences at the hotel left me feeling kinda ripped off. I hate to say this again, but the quality at the Hilton is more consistent; I’ve stayed there a couple times, and it was fine. Maybe mine was an unusual experience—it seems like everyone else loves this place, but...I wasn't crazy about it! I don’t know if I could really...
Read moreWe chose this hotel based on reviews and the fact that you may park outside your room. Lower level rooms easy access. It has a second story. The hotel has been nicely remodeled snd exceeds 3stars as far as style and comfort. We did find the bottom sheet to be stained and Pilly with a long black hair on the pillow case. We travel with a sheet so we placed it over the top. The amenities are paired down due to Covid. Like breakfast and happy hour are cancelled. The interaction is very Covid safe. The greater disappointment came as our upstairs neighbors arrived at 9:30 with at least half a dozen kids, well it sounded like it...they obviously were left unsupervised. We endured what we thought was the wind down and unpacking for 2hours. At that point the screaming, talking, jumping, chasing became too much. We call the front office that indicated they would contact the room. We tried to sleep as a parent obviously entered the room and sounds As if they packed up they kids and they left with rolling suitcases at 12:30. Peace. We could hear them still as they loaded into another room. Soon it was quite. We slept. Til 1:30 am when they returned to the room upstairs. We assumed the parents had switched rooms. Did I mention the wood floors? Then by hearing a single person walk around we thought they must be cleaning the room? The thumping and loud squeaky bed and things being dropped in the floor at 2:30 made us realize that nothing had changed. The front desk admitted no room were changed. At this point the unsupervised kids were back to defcon 5. And it seemed the parents were fighting about the kids and the kids were crying and I became worried as it started sounded very angry snd seemed violent. I called the desk at 3:15 and they went to the room to check on things and I could hear them speaking to an adult. After the staff left the noise level resumed for another 45 minutes. Finally peace at 4am. Yes, we tried earplugs and white noise prior. My husband wasn’t well from a back injury or we would have just left. He needed his rest. We were breaking up a long drive to give him relief. I was patient for 3hours because I get how difficult it is to travel with young children. I get it that tired parents need rest from the constant parenting of more challenging children. I think the hotel can better control this problem with putting the parents under their children instead of side by side. I would never want to repeat this experience and a plan to addresss family issues is needed. After all they charge $40 for a dog. I can tell you unsupervised and unmonitored children can be just as big as a nuisance. The good news is the dog slept. I am so disappointed as...
Read moreMy husband and I decided at the last minute to stay the night in Eugene because we were attending an event at The Hult Center. Driving back home that night, an hour away, didn’t seem appealing. The Timbers was appealing to me because of the proximity to the Hult Center and the appearance and age of the property. This motel was a cross between MCM and Twin Peaks which made it even more charming but had been recently updated with new flooring, wood slat ceilings as well as new fixtures. ||The front desk staff was very friendly for both the check-in and check-out procedures which a quick and easy process. I requested to be on the ground floor for our single, queen bed motel room as I have some mobility issues. The staff provided us a room on the ground floor on the back side of the building which we were able to have a parking spot right in front of the room. ||The room was cleanish. There was some black stains on the comforter, which looked like ink, the carpet at the front door was pretty gross, the table was a bit dirty and for the few minutes I walked on the wood floors without socks and shoes, my feet became dirty. But, aside from that, the room was fairly clean and comfortable. The air conditioning worked great which was amazing since it was in the high 80’s during our visit. The old charm of the room was amazing, the original shower and tile, along with the MCM style furniture and wood ceilings throughout. ||Aside from the carpets and floors in our room, the complaints I have were how loud the upstairs guest was. I’m surprised that when they installed the new wood ceilings, they didn’t install new insulation in the ceiling to help absorb the sound. Apparently, the upstairs guest needed to be awake at 5am and leave by 6am. It sounded like they were moving furniture and stomping back and forth the entire time and then let the door slam. ||My other complaint was the breakfast available was incredibly limited. The bacon didn’t look like it had been cooked at all, more like it was heated in the microwave for maybe 1 minute. The pastries were sad looking and there just wasn’t much of a selection. Personally, I think they could do away with the bacon and other hot items as none of them looked very appetizing. If you want a good breakfast for a really good price, go to Mandy’s just a few blocks away. ||We will definitely stay here again if we need to visit Eugene overnight. But I would rather walk up and down the stairs in pain than be put in a downstairs room again. Also, I would prefer a King size bed and a bathtub over a shower, but that’s...
