Downtown Riverfront Park — Attraction in Eugene

There once was a factory there that process poisonous products they had to dig and get all the contaminated dirt out but I feel that it's still contaminated It may be unsafe.the dirt is still there piled up to one side. The trails and park are nice, but without access to the actual river (a beach area or something) and some trees for shade it is lacking in my opinion. I really think the river inaccessibility is a problem - it feels like Eugene isn't appreciating the Willamette river enough. So many towns that have rivers running through them let the river shine.
