The McDonald theatre is a cool venue for seeing live music in downtown Eugene. There is ample parking close by on side streets and restaurants/cafes/bars near by if you want food or drink before a show. The staff working the venue were professional and friendly. Snacks like candy bars and nuts are available at the cash only concession stand at reasonable prices. Soda and water is available as well. If you’re over 21 I recommend the balcony as there is lots of seating and a good view of the stage. We saw Father John Misty and his opener Suki Waterhouse on 8/23/22 and they were both great. I took one star away from this review as I thought the audio for the concert was lacking. It sounded like the speakers were cranked too loud and the singers vocals were drowned out for both the main singer and the opener. On quieter songs it was okay but for many songs if you didn’t know the words you would be lost.

Great place to catch live music. This place is a medium-sized music venue that holds a few thousand people and has a balcony and a couple of bars. There is usually no seating on the main (floor) level. The balcony is fairly large and has good seats. There are ramps as opposed to stairs leading to the balcony, and it looks to be wheelchair accessible. There is an outdoor area beside the bar on the lower level. Most shows here are all ages, and the atmosphere is okay for kids to get to see a show without being near smoke or overly rowdy folks. Pee before you go as there are only a couple of restrooms and they get busy quick. I have seen many shows here and always look forward to it.

DO NOT GO HERE!! this venue is TRASH. TRASH security and trash audience! I’m covered in bruises and broken blood vessels after being shoved by men trying to get to the front. They absolutely don't care about any of their attendees nor care about crowd control or safety. My girlfriend got punched and shoved by two men trying to make their way to the front, to the point that she was in tears from being physically assaulted, and the security did absolutely NOTHING to help. One old white man security guard literally mocked us in distress and told us to brush it off. Absolutely a TERRIBLE venue attracting a TERRIBLE audience. Will be following up legally about this. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

TLDR; concert etiquette is neither enforced or understood by most patrons and all employees.

I know people, unfortunately, don't have concert etiquette, but it's bad that the employees don't either and that they are some of the main cause. Throughout the concert the ushers were walking through the row shining flashlights for people who have shown up late. Don't they know they have to wait in between songs? It's annoying when they don't stop people from moving around during a song, but it's worse when they're the ones actively doing and encouraging it. The bartenders upstairs also thought it was a great idea to completely clean up during the last two songs. If this was a rock concert, maybe this would have been fine. But during quiet acoustic songs it is not okay to be scooping ice into a 5 gallon bucket. She didn't even try to do it quietly. And when she was done with the scoop she just threw it on to her cart making a loud thud. Everyone in the balcony was staring and was in awe of the lack of respect. I'm surprised someone didn't confront her. I would have if I was closer. Anyway, this establishment could be so much more enjoyable if people, especially the staff, understood concert etiquette and...

OK, for one this place doesn't allow you to leave and come back which is fine. But they also do not have a places for people under the age of 21 to smoke so if your addicted and 4 hours is way to long to wait for a cigarette I would not recommend this venue. My personal experience: I was at the new tech n9ne show and between sets after realizing i couldn't smoke unless i wanted to leave for good I walked towards the back of the crowd and light up a guard came up and made me put it out and said i had one strike which is fine because i wasn't obeying there rules so i said OK and joked with the guy a little. 4 songs later some random dude try's to pass me a joint well i don't smoke weed so i waved him off then the guard comes up say's this is the second time i have caught you smoking your outta here, I hadn't even got to see the person i paid to see (Tech N9ne) I mean the first time he busted me i didn't try and hide it i coped to what i did and did as he asked. Anyway will never see another concert at this venue again!...

The bar staff could use some improvement, and a lesson in customer service. Asked the bartender to change one or two of the TVs in the bar to show the stage, because 5/6 or so of the TVs were on a football game with only one of the smaller ones behind the bar on the stage. So after getting no change after another 20 minutes, I ordered another drink. The bartender did not make eye contact with me and instead glanced up every other second at the football game. So my tab came and I didn't tip, I tip based on service, and I work in a tipped profession. When I sat down with my drink my sprite was nothing but carbonated water. I asked the bartender if I could get a new one and his response word for word was "well you didn't tip me before so why should I care?" The bar manager then proceeded to threaten kick us out without hearing a single word of what transpired. Concerts are amazing. But avoid the bar until they get some more people...
