I have to update from 5 stars to 3 and here is why. Below was the honeymoon phase I was in. Here is what I feel now. I havent been back in almost 6 months because I felt the Customer service increasingly got worse. I would sometimes stand at the counter while 2 were discussing what happened last night etc. I would get the Biscuits and Gravy which were pretty good. Well the last one, two no....3 TIMES the biscuits were hard and had to be cut with a knife or chunked off and chewed for a bit. I asked about them and one looked offended and another said that's our baker that makes them every morning. The baker isnt going to take credit for day or 2 old biscuits still being served. They didnt offer compensation any 3 of those times. They do charge you for the to go stuff but know that before.you get there. They truly seem to not care about how you feel. Only bright note: the gentleman with the pony tails was always genuine, in a good way.
To me, this is the perfect place to chill. Good music that isn't pop or elevator music, it's very eclectic mix of stuff you haven't heard before and stuff you wonder "why are they playing metal music at a coffee shop?". I have to get decaf americano due to my anxiety and i have to say this place makes a good decaf! I was also hesitant to try the vegan biscuits and gravy but guess what? After the first bite and getting over my traditional thoughts of what they shoud be....i get them 3 days a week now :) Come...
Read moreI was raised at the Wandering Goat.
On rainy Tuesday mornings when I was just a lad, my dad would drive here and sit for hours in the snug, dim little cafe drinking cappuccinos and reading, leaving me to play chess with the older locals and buying me a hot chocolate. He instilled me with the same love of craft coffee and a fanatical devotion to the art of the bean.
Over ten years later, the Goat still wears the crown. Sam has each different blend and roast dialed in with such precision and care that you can taste the regional notes of blueberry and orange peel in your espresso, and each barista has been trained so well that you don’t ever have to worry about inconsistency of quality.
The exclusively window-based service is, of course, the elephant in the room— I mean come on, we all want the tasting room back! But you really can’t blame them for taking precautions during their reopening, and while I miss being able to walk in and take my coat off, I understand the heart behind the window service, and I hope that they eventually feel comfortable reopening the cafe. If you haven’t had an espresso from this Whit classic, you’re missing out.
And whether you’ve lived in Eugene for a while, your whole life, or you’re just passing through, you’d be a fool not to...
Read moreThe chai is amazing!!! So damn tasty; an incredible potpourri of flavor. It’s not for pseudo-anarcho’s from the suburbs that expect the world to bow down to their sad ideas of taste. So don’t expect bland. Had a decaf espresso that was next level profile! It’s only at the Goat that I can expect such care of decaf espresso. Their roaster is one of the top 3 PacNW roasters. No question. Take home any of the beans and you’ll have a new favorite. The treats coming out of the bakery are addictive (I want that Goat everything bagel back though! I speak for half the town, I think :) On par with any dessert spot in town. To boot, the cafe is open again. The folks behind the counter are rad as hell; they are some of the best folks in our community. They support an underserved music community with live shows and collabs with local promoters. There’s also an art exhibit that showcases some of the last 20 years of the Goat and the Whitaker. Such a fun walk down memory lane. Been coming here for years, and plan on coming for many more. Someone once said “I’m a Wandering Goat, and a helluva a guy”. I resemble...
