Downtown Inn — Hotel in Eugene

This review has been a long time coming and I wasn’t able to write it until now. I was under a major medical emergency back in June 2023 and Henry was soooo very kind to me and sooo very patient. I was a wreck and in such pain. I made several calls to him trying to work through the timeframe of the emergency and needed a place that evening. He was calm and informative. Checkin was a breeze. The room was very clean, neat and odor free and quiet. The bathroom was clean and had nice amenities and a bathtub matt. Towels were clean and white. Bedding clean. Comfy beds and pillows. Also had TV, desk, a refrigerator. Simple and nice. We stayed the night and headed south 170 miles to the next emergency facility. Two days later we headed back to Eugene and stayed again at the Downtown Inn and Henry gave us the same room. The grounds were clean with no trash or cigarette butts. I came in from the coast for a concert at the Hult Center, and chose Downtown Inn because it was within walking distance at a good price. I wasn't expecting anything special and was impressed with the extras in the room: not only a microwave and minifridge/freezer but also an ironing board and iron along with a table and two chairs in addition to the desk. I've been in a lot more expensive, larger rooms that didn't have any practical place to sit down and eat a meal or play cards or whatever. Best of all, the room did NOT reek of fragrance. In fact it was not fragranced at all. And everything was squeaky clean. The heating/cooling system did leave a little to be desired, as another reviewer mentioned, but I'm giving the place five stars anyway because in every other respect it was perfect. It was refreshing to stay in a fairly priced hotel that exceeded expectations for cleanliness and comfort. The onsite owner/managers were professional and kind, which truly added to a sense of overall safety. The location is fantastic for local events and several coffee (none in the room) shops and restaurants are a few minutes walk away. Street noise was muffled well by the fan/AC unit. I appreciated the fridge with freezer and microwave for my multi-night stay. I was initially skeptical of the high review scores given the age of the buildings, but am now among those who will make this my first-choice for downtown...
